Install Husky Liners Mud Guards

This article will enable to install Husky Liner Mud Guards using only a few simply tools. Get started at step number one below.

Steps

Prepare Rear Well Area

  1. Remove the mudguard (you may need to remark the drill holes to verify the holes actual location. The image shown here is before the mudguard installation. Using the mudguard as a template, marking the holes with a sharp object.
  2. Drill out our marked holes (four holes total) using the {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} drill bit. You don't even have to be perfect or drill the holes completely all the way out. Just allow the drill bit to penetrate the plastic molded area of the bumper.
  3. Leave the plastic burs intact, as this allows the screws to latch onto the plastic bumper area thus cause a firm grip onto the screw while tightening.
  4. Replace the mudguard and thumbscrew once the four holes have been drilled out or started. Do all four screws, checking for alignment. The large washer black screws are ideal for these types of applications allowing for a tight fit with a very professional finish and appearance.
  5. Set your drill to its lowest speed and a Philips head attachment, tighten the two outermost screws first.
  6. Do the last two screws (inner most). These will require a bit more effort (assuming the tire is still mounted on the jeep) while using the right angle Philips screwdriver.
  7. Cheek another on another Jeep which has the OEM side steps to verify the fit of the front mud guards. Look to see if the mud guards fit between the fender well and the side steps.
  8. If you decide later that you want to install nerf bars or the OEM side steps Mopar offers, they will fit without having to remove the mud guards.

Tips

  • It's recommended that you remove one tire at a time while working on each area to install mud guards. You may be be able to do the installation without removing any of the rear tires but it may be a very tight fit on the last two Screws (the two inner most screws) because the tire is over sized and was in the way.
  • The right angle Philips screwdriver was a very slow process. So allot for plenty of time.

Warnings

  • Note: These mud guards are not meant for off road use. One may risk destroying mud guards if off road causing the guard to dangle off the vehicle.
  • Note: Never attempt to simply screw in the screws alone without pre-drilling the holes first. Holding the guard flush and very close to the molded bumper area, mark the four holes with a sharp object. Pencil or pen would not mark clearly enough to leave a good impression. Try using a sharpened 6 penny nail.
