Invert Colors on Your Windows XP

This article explains how to invert the colors on your Windows XP display for better visibility in low-contrast situations.

Steps

Adjusting Your Settings

  1. Click on the Start Menu. This is the button with the windows logo on the lower left hand side of the screen.
  2. Click 'Accessibility Options.’
  3. Check ‘Use High Contrast.’
  4. Click ‘Settings.’
  5. Select one of the high contrast schemes.
  6. Click ‘OK.’
  7. Click ‘Apply.’ Your computer's colors should be inverted, or changed.

Using a NVIDIA Graphic Card

  1. Right-click on your desktop. This method inverts all colors, but can only be used by NVIDIA graphics card users.
  2. Click 'Properties.’
  3. Under the 'Settings' tab, click 'Advanced.’
  4. From the upper row of tabs, select the one related to your graphic adapter (with an image icon).
  5. Click 'Start the NVIDIA Control Panel.’ (You need to have these NVIDIA utilities installed.)
  6. Inside NVIDIA control panel, from the left side navigation bar, under 'Display,' select 'Adjust Desktop Color Setting.’
  7. Under '2. Apply the following…,' switch to the ‘Graph’ tab.
  8. From the three points already forming the graph, select the point on the upper right side
  9. Set the value for 'In' to 1 and the value for 'Out' to 0.
  10. Select the point on the lower left side of the graph.
  11. Set the value for 'In' to 0, and the value for 'Out' to 1.
  12. Click 'Apply,' and you’re done!

Tips

  • When hitting ALT-SHIFT-PRNTSC, you may need to hit FN to activate the PRNTSC.

Warnings

  • Font size will increase if you use "large," so make sure it's not set to a "large."
  • Make sure you hold ALT + SHIFT, and not just hit the keys and release them.
