Kill Household Pests (Eucalyptus Oil Method)

Want a non-toxic way to kills flies, cockroaches and spiders in your home? Eucalyptus oil works a treat to meet your needs - it is both non-toxic (provided you don't swallow it!) and it is effective. Try it and find out for yourself!

Steps

  1. Buy some good quality eucalyptus oil from the supermarket. It is preferable to buy at least 250mls as it will be used up quickly.
  2. Get a plastic spray bottle - you can recycle your empty air freshener bottles, or buy one.
  3. Place eucalyptus oil in the bottle.
  4. Spray on pests. Two or three good squirts usually works, and if the pest is drenched in oil, it will die immediately. It works a little differently from fly spray, in that it kills pests quickly if you give them a good drenching with the oil.
  5. Store out of reach of children and pets. Although non-toxic to spray and handle generally, it is toxic if swallowed. It is also a good idea to wear gloves if you are sensitive to essential oils.

Tips

  • For flies or pests moving fast, you might have to spray in the general direction to slow them down at first, and then corner them to give them a more thorough spray.

Warnings

  • Clear the area of pets and people before you use the pesticide.
  • Aim the spray bottle away from people, pets, and yourself, as it can cause irritation to eyes and mucous membranes.
  • Do not spray the pesticide directly over your head or near your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Be very careful when handling pesticides. Pesticides, like any poison, are very harmful if inhaled, swallowed or sprayed on skin. Always wear gloves and eye protection.
