Increase Your Password Security in Windows 2000
Template:HistoricalThis article tells you how to increase Windows 2000 password security by having your computer create a new hash value for your password.
Steps
- Go to your "Start" button.
- Go to "Run".
- Type in "regedit" and press OK.
- Go to "Edit" at the top.
- Select "Find".
- Type "NTLM".
- Double-click on the top icon on the right side of the screen.
- Change the value from 0 to 1.
- This changes your NTLM hash value to one, so it creates a random hash value every time you type your password.
Warnings
- Back up your registry before you do this. If you mess the registry up, your computer will not boot.
