Increase Your Password Security in Windows 2000

This article tells you how to increase Windows 2000 password security by having your computer create a new hash value for your password.

Steps

  1. Go to your "Start" button.
  2. Go to "Run".
  3. Type in "regedit" and press OK.
  4. Go to "Edit" at the top.
  5. Select "Find".
  6. Type "NTLM".
  7. Double-click on the top icon on the right side of the screen.
  8. Change the value from 0 to 1.
  9. This changes your NTLM hash value to one, so it creates a random hash value every time you type your password.

Warnings

  • Back up your registry before you do this. If you mess the registry up, your computer will not boot.
