Knit an iPod Case with a Carry Strap

This is different from an iPod cozy - a case protects it and is more convenient for travel. This pattern fits the standard iPod or the iPod Video. See tips for variations.

Steps

  1. Body: cast on 18 stitches.
  2. Work in garter stitch (knit every row) for 78 rows.
  3. Bind off / cast off.
  4. Strap: cast on 12 stitches. Work in garter stitch until strap reaches desired length. Remember that it will stretch!
  5. Finishing: Fold body of case in half, wrong sides together. Sew side seams together. Leave a 1/2" (1 1/2 cm) space between the side seam and the bottom fold on either side. Insert ends of completed strap into holes. Secure the ends and sew strap to sides of case.

Tips

  • Shuffle (old shuffle, not the small silvery one)- cast on 11 stitches; cast on 8 stitches for strap
  • Mini/Nano- cast on 15 stitches; cast on 11 stitches for Mini, and 10 stitches for Nano (for strap)
  • Make sure the size is right after you knit the first inch, but before you go too far.
  • You may want to vary the number of stitches you cast on depending on your model of iPod. You also may want to change the thickness of the strap, depending on how heavy your iPod is.
  • Final dimensions of case for iPod Video: 4" x 4 3/4"/{{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} x {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}
