Learn an Attitude of Leadership
Not all leaders lead their team in the same way. However, many will have similar attributes that you can learn from. A great leader also acknowledges the importance of their team.
Steps
- Be a problem solver. Not all problem solvers are leaders, but all leaders are problem solvers. Some people who are good at problem solving simply do not want to be leaders. However, if you gain a reputation as a problem solver, you might find that people naturally start looking to you as a leader.
- Value teamwork. Leaders are never the people who want to do everything themselves. Those individuals are not leadership material. Leaders are people who encourage teamwork. They recognize the power of the team. Do you recall the old adage "There is no 'i' in team"?
- Leaders think before they speak. For a leader to instill confidence in his team, he must speak in a confident manner. Take the time to plan what you want to say to your team. Organize your thoughts, then give clear instructions.
- Leaders need to be positive. The attitude of a leader should be kind and helpful at all times. Even when the pressure is on, a leader will not show weakness; they will give direction with a smile and happy face.
- Leaders are role models. When you in a leadership position, your team looks up to you. Nobody is perfect. You might make a few mistakes. The lesson here is to show your peers the importance of learning from your mistakes.
- Leaders care about the team members. Take some time to get to know the members of your team. A good leader knows when one of their team is not themselves, and asks if something is wrong. When out doing errands, a leader gives a big smile and wave when they recognize a face across the parking lot. Who knows, you may have just made their day?
- Have fun. Yes, you have to take your position seriously, but lets face it; you are part of the team! When the work is done: Have fun!!!
