Stop Being a Follower and Start Being a Leader
Would you like to be a leader among your peer group, students and friends, instead of being a follower? Read on to see the most helpful tips to stop following "the cool kid"!
Steps
- Find your own ideas to be with it. Use your style; so don't copy what others in school may think is so "cool". Avoid Fads that are about a music group, a movie, clothing brand, politics or other propaganda/products.
- See if the "cool kid" is a 'poser'. Think of all the things he/she brags about. For example, did the "cool kid" ever claim he/she was Gangsta, Scene, Screamo, or Emo? If so, ignore this styling and posing. He or she is likely to start an argument with someone, even you!
- Realize what negative things he/she does. Does the "cool kid" cuss even when he's 12? Does the kid do the most stupid things someone could do? Does he talk about lewd things?
- Don't follow the cool kid around! Instead, hang out with people whom you actually like for a couple weeks. When you do this, you may start to realize that the "cool kid" is now a "wannabe".
- Talk with your friends/parents about interesting topics. Most of your friends follow what the "cool kid" does. Ask your parents for ideas as well. Your friends will start to realize the "cool kid" is not so cool and won't hang out with him/her.
- Be creative with your style. You can make a style but don't know how to? Well, if the "cool kid" wears black and dark colors, do neon! Try mostly neon: neon shoes, pants, hats, shirts! Or do a mix and match/no-style! It's your "style"! Show your inner personality!
- If you have glasses, keep them! You'll look cooler/more mature, really clever and intelligent with skinny jeans and neon shirts or with mixed and matched colors, when you wear glasses!
- If you're a boy, grow your hair out or keep it short as you like! It's your style!
- Do some really funky hairstyle! So, for example, you can make your hair like Soul's in Soul Eater.
- Lead in the music area by listening to different kinds of music! When people focus on one band or the band the "cool kid" listens to, they don't hear other music that might have been better than the other band. Just put different music in your MP3, even BMG from video games!
- Sign up for YouTube, Myspace, or Facebook with some funky name for your displayed name. Make a playlist.
- Lead with a funky lunch of something special. Try unusual foods that no one else would pack like strawberries, sushi, or chicken instead of a plain old sandwich.
- Be confident at school, and everyone will think you're so cool! Sooner or later the "cool guy" will be ticked off and walk away in annoyance... then two weeks later, he/she may say you're cool. Be different, and you'll be the "freaking awesome kid!"
Tips
- Be sincere, not a poser!
- If you want, you can also change the decor of your room so when people come to your house, it'll be like a personality house.
- Transfer to another school to be a 100% different, and try to make a mark as being cool and mature.
Warnings
- Don't cuss or you'll be a poser kid too.
- Be an example; do not call others a wannabe of your style. But, realize they may want to be like you to be cool.
- Make sure you don't identify yourself in another style that you aren't, or else you'll be another follower, not a leader.
- Being rude is not being a leader, it's being a jerk.
