Leave a Guild in World of Warcraft

You knew you shouldn't have started an in-guild affair with that saucy, white-haired Night Elf - it could only end in heartbreak. Luckily, your enchanted leather boots (Minor Speed and +9 Stamina) are made for walking, so that's just what they'll do.... right out of your guild. If you've never left a guild before, you may not know the menu and text functions for leaving guilds. Luckily, both can be accessed and used in seconds so you can leave your guild right away, before things get too awkward.

Steps

Windows

  1. Press 'J' on your keyboard to open up your guild window. This is the window which shows all of the guild information.
  2. Click the 'Roster' tab along the bottom of the window.
  3. Find your character's name and right click it. A menu will drop down from your name with several selections.
  4. Select 'Leave Guild'. A confirmation window will pop up. After confirming you wish to leave your guild (click 'Accept'), a yellow message will appear in the chat box saying "YourCharacter has left the guild", and you will no longer be in a guild.

Instant Text

  1. In your text box, type in the command /gquit or /guildquit. There is no confirmation window when you do it this way! Instantly a yellow message will appear in the chat box saying "YourCharacter has left the guild", and you will no longer be in a guild.

Warnings

  • Be absolutely positive you wish to leave the guild. You can not come back unless you get invited back by a high-ranking (officer level) guild member, and most guilds frown on players who drop their guild and then want a reinvitation.
  • Note that your reputation will be down graded one category once you have a joined a new guild. For example, upon leaving a guild with Exalted reputation, in your next guild you would be Renowned.
  • When you use the text command, there is no confirmation window that pops up. Be careful about using this command!
  • Make sure that you are on the character you wish to quit the guild on.
