Leave a Note Signed 'Secret Admirer'

You like her but you're too shy to reveal you do. Even though you want to tell her, you just don't know how. Well...most girls need a good first impression into a guy's personality. Follow these steps and your Secret Admirer note will be perfect for your crush.

Steps

  1. Use neat paper. Lined notebook will work best since you will not have sloped sentences and the layout will be neat. Make sure it is NEW. You do NOT want to use that wad of paper in the bottom of your bookbag that you didn't write on but you think they won't notice the wrinkles. You want a nice, clean, brand new sheet of paper.
  2. Use a fairly new, standard pen. You don't have to write it in calligraphy, but you don't want your pen drying out halfway either. Use either black or blue, avoid bright colors such as green, pink, or purple, as these are very juvenile and aren't formal.
  3. Be aware of how you write. If you write small, practice writing bigger. If your letters take up two lines, shrink them a bit. They should fit comfortable on a lined sheet of paper, not overlapping or crowding the page.
  4. Keep your note/letter short, sweet and to the point. You can go two ways: Poem, or an actual note.
  5. If you choose a poem. you want to make sure 1) It is not too mushy. The last thing you need is for the person to gag while reading about how you have a shrine to them. But don't go embarrassingly obvious with the "Roses are red" routine. Make it your own. Comment on how pretty she is. The main things girls love to be complimented on are, eyes, smile, personality (how funny, nice, sweet, or kind she is), and hair.
  6. If you choose just a standard note form, do it like a letter (but leave out the date). Start it with JUST her name, not "Dear So-in-So". Then write about 1) How you've noticed her (insert Main Things Girls Love to be Complimented On here). 2) How you think about her. Mostly when like "all the time" or if you want to be more creative, go with something like "every moment of the day". 3) Leave a "Tracer". (see next step)
  7. A Tracer is a certain key phrase that is unique to THAT note (or in other cases, all of your notes). It should be a short phrase, no longer than fifteen-twenty words and should be very easy to remember. You may use this as a P.S. side note or as your last sentence in each note. Just BE SURE you have consistency so she will know the note is from you every time.
  8. Sign off. Make sure you write "Your Secret Admirer" in a much neater, more elegant script than the rest of the note. After the first note is received, you may choose to sign it as S.A., but to spell it out is more formal and mature.
  9. Send it. There are a number of ways to do this:
  10. -The easiest way to deliver the note, especially if you are in school, is to slide it in a locker vent. She will get it the moment she opens her locker and the surprise will be exciting.
  11. -Slip it in her books/backpack. Be careful with this one. Your cover will be instantly blown with one glance.
  12. -Hide it in her room. This is only applicable if you are buddies with her brother and you have access to her room. The same rule applies though; if you were the only person visiting, your cover will be blown.
  13. Listen. If she talks about it, she got the note. If you glance in her locker and it is gone, she got it. You always want to ASSUME she got it as long as you put it in a secure place that where she would find it.
  14. Prepare the next ones. Your follow up notes should be different, but just as sweet. Comment on recent changes to show you care, but make sure you use your Tracer. Your notes should be anywhere from a week to two and a half weeks apart. You want her to anticipate the notes, but not forget all about them.
  15. Meet. After you have written at least ten or fifteen notes. Use your Tracer as a way to reveal yourself. Maybe say it during a small conversation with her or in another conversation but loud enough she can hear. Use the surprise and shock in her eyes to let HER strike up the million dollar question: Are YOU my Secret Admirer?

Tips

  • Place it in a spot where she will find it and others won't, and where it will not get lost. You want her to find and read it, not lose it and not even know.
  • A three-way fold for a sheet of lined paper will suffice. You may also use an envelope for more anticipation and secrecy, although it is not necessary.
  • A trick would be to layer the two so you use the shadow of the lines through the copy paper.
  • Be natural. Do not freak out when she is near because she may suspect. Just go about your normal routine until you are ready to be revealed.
  • Do not drone on about one thing. Enter short, sweet things you enjoy about her and what you notice that makes her different. The phrase "a little goes a long way" applies perfectly here.
  • When ready to be unveiled, nonchalantly say your tracer so she can hear it, and wait until SHE approaches YOU.
  • Sign it "Your Secret Admirer" as neat and cursive-like as you can without it being illegible.
  • Always listen in on her conversations SUBTLY to see if she got the note, but also ALWAYS assume she has gotten it.
  • Use CLEAN paper. Lined, notebook paper is best, although if you feel you can write on copy paper and note slope your lines, that would work better.
  • Keep it short. If it is a note, no longer than a paragraph. If it is a poem, no more than ten lines. Both may use double spacing, this adds maturity and organization to writing.
  • If you DO use an envelope, write your significant others' name, even more neatly than you would sign "Secret Admirer", on the front.
  • Write as neatly as possible. You want them to think of you as a neat and clean person, writing says a lot about you.
  • Wait seven days at the LEAST to deliver the next message, but don't rush.
  • ALWAYS USE YOUR TRACER, as this will aid you in revealing yourself when your confidence has built up.
  • Address it with only the name. Ex. "Mary" or "Mary J."
  • Leave it in someone's desk at school when they're NOT looking.

Warnings

  • Use correct spelling!! I do not know how to stress how important this is!! Use Microsoft Word if you have to!
  • If it is too long, she may get bored. If it is too short, she may be left confused. Leave her with no more than a paragraph at a time.
  • Do NOT by ANY means reveal your secret to someone else. No matter how much you trust them, it will get out.
  • Do not be too gushy. Be tasteful in complimenting.
  • Hide the note when she is not looking to avoid exposure.

Things You'll Need
