Look Good in Middle School

Maybe it's the first day of middle school, you've just transferred schools, or you just want to look nice for that special someone—whatever the reason, you want to look great. Whether you're a girl or guy, looking good in middle school comes down to three main rules: maintain good hygiene, pick out some great clothes, and have a winning attitude. Scroll down to Step 1 to learn more.

Steps

Everyone

  1. Wake up at least an hour before school starts. This will give you time to get ready, pack your backpack and eat breakfast.
  2. Aim for about 9 1/2 to 10 hours of sleep. This will keep you well rested and will prevent under-eye bags and is the recommended amount of sleep by doctors.
  3. Brush and floss your teeth. Be sure to do it for two minutes twice a day, or after every meal. Consider using a whitening toothpaste if your teeth are yellow.
  4. Rinse with mouthwash. Mouthwash will further freshen your breath and help fight cavities.
  5. Put on clothing that flatter your body and are clean. You don't have to have the trendiest or most expensive clothing out there. Just make sure it fits you and it's clean. Try to avoid wearing the same thing everyday.
  6. Consider getting a Find a Good Haircut before the first day of school, there's nothing like a new haircut to change your appearance.
  7. Wash your face twice a day using cleanser. This will clean any dirt, makeup, and oil off your face.
  8. Be nice to everyone, even people you don't like. Don't curse, swear or flip people off, not even in different languages.
  9. Clean yourself up! Take showers every day, but don't wash your hair every day, your hair will get greasy and oily. Use a good smelling body wash, put on deodorant. Brush your teeth twice a day (recommended 3 times a day if you have braces.) and floss. Make sure to keep a lip balm on hand so your lips will be extra soft.
  10. Wear nice clothes. Make sure jeans hug your body, because baggy ones make you look filthy and you don't look your best. Wear shirts that fit. Wear clean underwear everyday and you most likely need to wear a bra, if you're a girl. Make sure the bra fits, when you bend over it shouldn't hang off your breast and it shouldn't suffocate your chest either. A lot of kids in 6th grade go to stores such as Aeropostale, Justice, American Eagle, and Forever 21.
  11. Wash your face. You're very likely starting puberty or already have and you will start getting acne. Washing your face can keep it from getting too bad and fight off the problem a little bit before it starts.
  12. If you want, start wearing makeup. If you aren't allowed, skip this step. If you are, don't go overboard. Wear mascara, a little eyeshadow, and a light blush. If you have acne then use concealer, but don't go crazy with it or you will look fake. Just go natural.
  13. Stay healthy. Get involved in sports, drink water and don't skip meals. This will keep you healthy inside and out. Also get a lot of sleep. It reduces the dark circles under your eyes and if you don't get enough sleep than your grades will start to drop.

Girls

  1. Comb your hair using a wide-toothed comb. If your hair is especially tangled, use a detangler or leave in conditioner. Do your hair in a cute, school appropriate style.
  2. Put on Light Makeup (for Teens). You don't need a whole lot of makeup to look good for school. Just conceal under eye circles and any blemishes and apply lip balm, tinted moisturizer, and some mascara. Sparkly lip gloss is fine too. Just stay away from harsh and overly bright colors.
  3. Make a School Emergency Kit (for Teen Girls). This can help you in a girl emergency! It can contain:
    • Tampons or pads
    • Makeup
    • Mints
    • A mini hairbrush or comb
    • Hand lotion
    • Hair clips
    • Deodorant
  4. Go to the bathroom to check on how you look at school. Fix your hair and makeup if needed.
  5. Always go to the bathroom before school. If you don't, you might have to go during class and miss out on some important information. If it's an emergency, ask a friend to take some notes for you.
  6. Don't brag. It makes you seem stuck-up and rude.
  7. If you're trying to impress a guy, be yourself.

Boys

  1. If you decide to wear cologne, choose a powdery fresh scent or something that people would enjoy smelling, rather than getting them nauseated. If you decide that you like the cologne that suits you, but it's too strong, spray it once or twice, at the most. A good method is to spray it in front of you, then step into the "cloud".
  2. Don't let your pants hang low. Your pants shouldn't expose your underwear. It isn't attractive and is most likely against your school's dress code.
  3. Be nice to girls if you like them. Don't be mean to them if you really like them. They hate that, it annoys them and it doesn't make them think that you are cool.
  4. Don't put too much gel on your hair. It doesn't make you look cool.
  5. Don't ever dress like a gangster to impress or flatter a girl. It isn't attractive and you will look like a wannabe.

Tips

  • Dress appropriately.
  • Remember that fashion and comfort are the two necessities of your every outfit.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Don't overdo makeup.
  • Wear hoodies, shorts, skinny jeans, fitted shirts, plaid shirts, Uggs, high-tops, Converse. All of these items are cute and appropriate for your age!
  • Be yourself. Never do any of this to impress someone, do it for you
  • If you want to be popular then try to be nice to the "popular kids". If they are mean to you, don't annoy them. Just try to find ways to make them laugh! If you don't feel comfortable around anyone, you should not be friends with them. Honestly, the mean popular kids often don't have as many friends as the modest, friendly kids (which makes the friendly kids more popular). Make friends with kids who you like and who like you back.
  • If you're not allowed to wear makeup or don't want to, it's alright. Just because other kids do doesn't mean that you have to. Your parents may have a reason not to let you wear makeup.
  • Be nice. No one cares what you look like if you're not a good person.
  • Use brands of shampoo and conditioner like Dove, and Tresemme. Try Herbal Essences if you want, but it's said that Herbal Essences only smells good and doesn't help your hair in anyway.
  • Wear not just comfortable and good looking clothes, but wear the type of clothes that are good for use in a gym. You don't want to have to do gym class in an inappropriate dress.
  • Brand names don't matter, they are just clothes.
  • Get a good, clean haircut from a professional before school starts.

Warnings

  • Never wear clothing that doesn't make you feel confident. This will just make you feel uncomfortable, which nobody wants to be.
  • Do not talk about how much your clothes cost. That is distasteful. It shows others that you would pay any amount of money to wear clothes you could get at a cheaper price.
  • Never overuse make up. You don't want to look like you're trying too hard.
  • Never try to pretend to be someone you're not.
  • Don't starve yourself.
  • Don't put lots of makeup on.
  • Never wear clothes that are too tight or show too much skin.
