Make Chocolate Vodka

Did you know that you can dissolve melted chocolate into vodka? It's really simple to do and makes an amazing drink for those who love the delight of chocolate! The type of chocolate used is up to you, although the method outlined in this article uses Milky Way bars (US)[1] or Mars bars (rest of the world)[2].

Ingredients

  • 5 or 6 Mars bars (Milky Way bars in the USA) or other chocolate bars, approximately standard size - a packet is the easiest way to purchase them
  • 70cl bottle (3 cups, 700ml, 23.6 fl oz) of vodka, cheap is fine as the chocolate makes up for its lack of taste

Steps

Water dish method

  1. Set out the pan and a Pyrex™ bowl. The bowl should fit completely inside the pan. If you have a double boiler, you can use this instead.
  2. Half fill the pan with water. Rest the bowl in it so that it floats on the water and the pan does not overflow. The water should surround most of the bowl.
  3. Roughly chop the Make Mars Bar Custard. Place the chopped pieces in the bowl.
  4. Bring the water up to a very gentle simmer so that it melts the Mars bars. As they are melting, introduce the vodka bit by bit.
    • Keep stirring the mixture, and adding the vodka, until all of it has been added. Do not let the vodka mix boil, or the alcohol will evaporate.
    • Once all of the vodka has been poured in, keep mixing until everything forms a smooth blend. The caramel will be the last part to melt in, but be patient and it'll go eventually.
  5. Take the bowl out of the pan carefully. Set aside to allow it to cool.
  6. Bottle the vodka using a funnel. Once the mixture is down to room temperature, place it in the freezer for at least 24 hours. The chocolate vodka will not freeze and will form a nice thick and cold texture.
    • Keep stored in the freezer until needed and in between use.

Freezer method

With this method, you'll need a little patience as the bottle needs to sit in the freezer for two weeks. The upside is that there is less work involved than the first method suggested above.

  1. Prepare the vodka and the Mars bars.
    • Pour out about 20 percent of the vodka from the vodka bottle. Pour this amount into another bottle for storage and future use.
    • Chop up the Fry a Mars Bar.
  2. Push the chopped up Mars bars through the neck of the bottle and into the vodka.
  3. Put the lid back on the bottle. Make sure it's tight and secure.
  4. Place the bottle into the freezer. Leave the bottle in the freezer for two weeks. Every couple of days, turn the bottle and shake if needed.
  5. Remove and serve when the Mars bars have dissolved throughout the vodka. Keep in the freezer in between use.

Dishwasher method

  1. Prepare the vodka and the Mars bars.
    • Remove a quarter of the liquid from a litre bottle of vodka. Pour it into another bottle for storage and future use.
    • Chop up the Mars bars so to a consistency that allows them to fit through the neck of the vodka bottle.
  2. Push the chopped up Mars bars through the neck of the bottle and into the vodka. Don't worry about how it looks - not so appealing at this point!
  3. Put the lid back on the vodka bottle. Make sure it's tight and secure.
  4. Place the vodka bottle into a dishwasher and run a cycle. The heat of the water will melt the Mars bars and dissolve the chocolate into the vodka.
  5. Give the bottle a good shake. If the Mars bars are not all completely dissolved, put it back in the dishwasher for another cycle.
  6. Remove from the dishwasher. Place it in the freezer to cool it down. Once frozen, it's ready to drink!

Tips

  • Other chocolate bars can be used, but avoid ones that contain biscuit, fruit or nuts, as these will not dissolve and they're hard to remove once melted in. They also detract from the drinking experience.
  • Use the cheapest vodka you can find. The quality of the vodka hardly makes any difference to the final result.

Warnings

  • Do not allow the vodka to boil in the first method or the alcohol will evaporate.
  • Take care with the alcohol, especially if using a gas stove or other open flame. It's flammable!
  • Make sure that kids do not think that this is for them! This is an adults-only drink.
  • Drink responsibly.

Things You'll Need
