Make Rose Vinegar
Rose vinegar imparts a delicate flavour to salad dressings and other dishes. It is very simple to make and is a delightful gift for a gourmand.
Ingredients
- 1 part scented rose petals, organic (free of pesticides)
- 4 parts quality white wine vinegar
Steps
- Wash the rose petals softly under gentle running water.
- Leave to dry. Place on wax paper, a tea towel or on a wire cookie rack to dry.
- Place the petals at the base of the container and fill with vinegar.
- Seal the lid or screw on, as appropriate.
- Place the jar or bottle in a sunny position. Leave to infuse in the sun for about one month.
- Serve. It can be used in salad dressings, neat on the salad and in many other uses where you require vinegar.
Tips
- This item is a good seller for market stalls at bazaars/fĂȘtes and farmer's markets.
- Decorate the container with a ribbon and some dried rose petals if you intend to give this as a gift.
- Some non-culinary uses for rose vinegar include:
- Add a little to clothes washing water to perfume clothes delicately. Add it to a towel-only wash for increased softness and a great scent.
- Soak a tissue in the rose vinegar to alleviate a headache; apply to forehead.
- Add to a spray bottle and spray small spurts in areas such as the bathroom and laundry for a lifting scent.
Warnings
- It is very important that you use organic petals that are free from pesticides; otherwise, you risk concentrating the effects of the chemicals.
