Make Your Instagram Photos Private

With an increasing number of privacy issues on Instagram, some users want to make their pictures private so that only those who are approved to view their pictures can access them. This article will guide you through the steps of making your Instagram photos private.

Making Photos Private

  1. Login in to your Instagram account.
  2. Go to your profile by touching the button on the lower right-hand corner.
  3. Tap the "Edit Your Profile" button near your profile picture.
  4. Look for the "Photos are Private" box (near the bottom for iPhone/iPad).
  5. Switch to On or check the box. Then press "Done" in the top right-hand corner.
  6. Upon clicking Instagram will ask for confirmation.Confirm it by clicking yes.
  7. Hurray! Your Instagram Photos are now private.

Accessing Follow Requests

  1. From now on anyone who wants to see your Instagram photos has to send you a follow request which will appear in the news feed.
  2. To go to news feed click the feed icon on the bottom bar with a star on a talk tag sign on it.
  3. You will reach the news feed where you'll see follow requests.Click on the follow requests user name.
  4. You will be directed to users profile page and where you can either approve their request or decline it.Click approve to accept the request.

Tips

  • Even though your account is now private you can still access and comment on public photos,but when it comes to mentioning an unapproved users name in your comment, then the unapproved user will not be able to see the part of the comment.
  • You can even check out if a user is private user or not by visiting their Instagram web address.

  • If you share your photos on social network then anyone can see your photos, however they won't be able to see your photos on Instagram except the approved users.
  • Allow follow requests based on their status so that you can also benefit from their photos and followers.
  • In your news feed, Only the public news feed for approved users activity will appear and not their private activity news feed.
  • These private images even when geotagged will not be visible to any of your approved followers or to public.Only you can see them on the "tag page" which makes you and your photo location private.
  • To check if your account has become private or not, Visit your profile on Instagram web by writing the following address in your browser - www.instagram.com/username here replace username with your user name.
    • If your profile is private then it will show that the account is private otherwise it will show your uploaded photos.

  • Making your photos private has a demerit of limited exposure which is easily available for public accounts.However if you want privacy then being private is safe and better.
