Start a Drawing Account on Instagram
Are you an aspiring artist who just wants to get his or her artwork displayed for the whole world to see? Especially if it's for FREE? Are you also unsure of how to do so? Or you just don't know how to get that many followers on instagram? Then say no more because this how to is for you!
Steps
- Register for an instagram account. All you need is an easy to remember username, password, and email. You can use your facebook to register if you'd like. You can also upload your profile picture if you'd like but you can do that later on.
- Uploading your drawings. Once you're registered, you can start uploading your drawings.
- Make sure each drawing has your watermark! I cannot stress this enough. It is vital that you add a watermark to each of your drawings so that no one can take it and claim it as theirs. You may use a font app like "Phonto" or you may hand-write it on your artwork. Make sure your instagram username is big enough that it can be easily read and so that it cannot be cropped off of the drawing.
- Gain more followers! How can you spread your talent if you don't have any followers to see your posts?
- A good way to get more followers is to follow accounts with the same interests. Remember, Instagram and most social media is about creating a community with people whom you share like interests. Don't be one of the people who spams, instead leave honest comments like 'great job!' and many people will check out your account without the spammy message of "I'm a new account, please check out my drawings of (things that you drew)" . You can even ask big accounts if they're willing to give you a shoutout if you make them a fansign: a drawing of their username in a creative way. You can also direct message them with a piece of your artwork and ask if they could debut it to a larger audience. Remember, even if you're turned down, keep trying!
Tips
- Don't do too many fansign contests. It gets really annoying and there won't be much value to your fansigns if you keep drawing them. If you like the thought of a fansign contest, just do them every other month.
- Join as many fansign contests as you can. Especially if the host's account has 10k+ followers. It's a big achievement if you win one and you may gain a lot of followers because of it.
- Get the app "squaready". It's handy for cropping your artwork to the right size to fit instagram's limited square. There's a free and pro version. Save your money and get the free one.
- Get the app "phonto" so you can digitally add a watermark to your drawings. You can change the font, font size, font color, and many more!
- Many instagram accounts have a "kik" or an app where you can message other people without actually giving out personal info. You should definitely get this app. You can even kik the person your fansign so that you don't flood your account with annoying fansigns.
Warnings
- MAKE SURE YOU ADD YOUR WATERMARK OR INSTAGRAM USERNAME TO YOUR ARTWORK! You do NOT want anyone taking credit for your talent!
- When you start posting fansigns, everyone will be asking for one, and I mean EVERYONE. So if you do choose to keep making a few fansigns, tell your followers to give you a shoutout once you make the fansign for them. If you didn't know already, a fansign is pretty much a shoutout. That's why big (and small) accounts usually always have fansign contests.
- If you do plan to do shoutouts, promos, or screenies, don't do them too often, and delete them an hour after posting. Your followers will get annoyed and may unfollow you. It's fine to do them once in a while, but not every day.
