Make a Club Penguin Video
Always seen those YouTube, Google, Metacafe, Dailymotion, Children's Youtube, etc... videos of Club Penguin? Want to make one? Well, here's your chance!
Steps
- Beforehand, you should probably look at some of the other videos on YouTube. If you plan on making a Music Video, look at some of the more popular Music Video Entertainers. For any other type of video, do the same with a person who specializes in, say Comedy, for comedy videos.
- Have an idea of what you are going to do. Although it may seem easier to make something up as you go along, you should create a plot in your head, or better yet, write a script. Skip this step if you are making a live (unscripted) video.
- Set up characters. You can use existing penguins, or you can have only your penguin in the movie.
- Get screen-recording software. This is a must. Using a webcam creates blurry video. HyperCam 2 is very good, and very popular. As for video-making software, on a Windows computer, you can use Windows Movie Maker or a Sony Vegas Demo. On a Mac, you can use iMovie or iShowU HD.(The free version has a banner over the screen.)
- Start recording! Once you've got it all set up, open up HyperCam 2 (or any other recording program). If you can, choose the option to hide the cursor, unless your video is a how-to, which then you would need the cursor. On HyperCam 2, F2 starts to record and F3 pauses the recording.
- Start editing. Open up Windows Movie Maker, or any other software, and import the videos. It may take a little while to learn your software, especially if it is something like Sony Vegas Pro. But don't worry, you'll get the hang of it. Be sure your video is very clear, and if your penguin talks, you should be able to read it. Adding audio can make any video much more interesting.
- Your video is almost ready for YouTube or any other website. Or, you can choose not to upload at all. But before you do anything, you have to double check your work. Add transitions between clips, effects, titles, credits, and be sure the audio is in sync.
YouTube Etiquette
- There are some simple guidelines you should follow so you don't insult anyone and don't get a bad reputation.
- Insulting anyone, cursing in the videos Cursing isn't nice, but if it's absolutely necessary, it's probably okay. But for Club Penguin videos, if you curse on Club Penguin, you will probably be banned. So leave the cursing for other stuff.
- Admitting your stuff isn't any good. If you are going to mention in the description "I made this because i was bored. its kinda dumb lol.", then you probably shouldn't upload this. You will get bad comments, ratings, and your good videos are less likely to be seen.
- Dealing with bad comments Commenting is a good thing! People may suggest ways you could improve your stuff, or things they really liked. But some people may use inappropriate language to explain their disappointment. Just politely delete the comment. Unfortunately, they might rate badly, but it's not worth getting into a fight with some person who would probably never say out loud what they wrote in that comment.
- Proper grammar. Sounds boring, but if no one can understand you, they might not bother watching anything.
Alternate Method
- Download Penguin Storm 11. It's recommended to download the zip file along with WinZip, because it's safer and extractable files can be more confusing and you will usually have to work with a script which deals with knowledge of html code.
- Click Download Penguin Storm 11 (ZIP). Then install WinZip. A small window should pop up that says WinZip (Evaluation Version) PenguinStorm101.zip on the top.
- Two files should appear, a script that says README.txt and a file that says Penguin Storm 11. Double click Penguin Storm 11.
- Now a window will open up on it's own, and appear to be logging you into Club Penguin. Log in on your penguin account (preferably a member account if you have one). Choose a fairly full server where there will be enough people to be included in your video if needed. (This will be explained in step 5.) Instead of saying "Loading server" when the little white arrows spin in a circle and load, it will say Penguin Storm 11. Once your logged in to the server, start playing around with the program a little to get used to it. It's actually pretty easy to figure out. Just click the tabs above and click different things to see what they do. Like if you click the Edit tab and then Change Interface and click Flipped ON/OFF you can flip club penguin upside down!
- Once you've kinda got the gist of the program, get Hypercam 2 (or Cam Studio or other recording program you have) ad get ready to record a video. Select a region you want to record so you can click Start Recording when your ready.
- Decide on what kind of video you want to make. If you want to make a one-man (or one-woman) show, you can change your penguin's name to different characters when you switch characters and turn the colored names off. Let's say you're making a drama and there are two characters in the show named Molly and Ruby. When you change between each character, you can edit your penguin's name to Molly or Ruby, or any other name you want your character to be.
- Here's how: Go to the Edit tab, and then Your Player, and then click Edit Name. Now type in whatever name you want your penguin to be and click Ok. Now your player has that name instead of your old one!
- Turning off the colored names is really simple: Click Edit, All Players, Coloured names, and switch it to off. Now your penguin's name won't be colored, if you don't want it to be.
- If you want to to sort of a comedy or disaster movie, how about turning everyone into something strange like giants or tiny rodent-sized penguins or clones of Aunt Arctic or Candace?
- Here's how: Go to Edit, All Players, then to change them into giants or into teeny tiny penguins, go to size change and click any size you want.
- To turn penguins into famous penguins: Edit, All Players, Item Edit, Mascot, and then click any penguin you want people to be. Hell, you could have mini Beta Ninjas running around everywhere and driving you crazy! Think of some crazy random idea, this will usually get you a lot of views.
- To turn penguins into puffles: Edit, All Players, Puffles, then any color puffle you want them to be.
- This also works if you want to be a giant or be Rockhopper or Candace or whatever. Go to Edit, Your Player, Edit Items (Client Side), Preset, and click any mascot you want to be or Size Change under Your Player and be any size you want to be. Sadly, you can't change yourself into a puffle.
- Maybe to want to make a horror flick. That's cool! Adding scary music is really important, but you'll need a few special effects to really add some scare! Use the transparency effect by going to Edit, Your Player (or all players if you want everyone around you to be ghosts) and then Transparency. Changing it to 50 % is probably a good bet if you want people or yourself to look ghost-like. Now if you want yourself or others to slide around and float like a ghost, go to Edit, then Walks, then Slide Mode. People will slide and not walk regularly and it will sort of appear they are floating around like ghosts. You can even add a dead penguin body if you're looking for a gory effect. Go to Your Player, Rotation, and change it to 90 degrees and sit in a position that will make it look like your laying face down on the floor. You can snap a picture of this with HyperSnap and use PhotoShop or Paint to Put on red paint that looks like blood.
- Walk on walls to be a cool ninja or just to be random! Go to Edit, Walks, and click Walk on Walls ON/OFF. Now you can walk on walls! You could even be a cat in a tree or a frightened toddler on top of the shelf in the pet shop! Use your imagination.
- Record whatever you want to once you have your idea set up. Upload it to YouTube and see how many views you get.
Tips
- No bad words ANYWHERE, or you could get banned, or viewers will treat you meanly! Kids will be watching this, you know!
- In the description, list the songs you used (if you used any). People will find this helpful, and will comment about how cool your video is, instead of "what was that song at 0:43?"
- Try to use different video editors. A great one is Cyberlink Powerdirector. But be sure you know how to use the program before making your video!
- Mistake? No worries! Just delete that scene on movie maker, OR, just go to my documents and delete the most 'recent' video, if it was the most newest one there.
- Subscribe to others, but only if you like their work. The whole "sub for sub" thing is a little silly. People should subscribe to you because they like your videos.
- Don't comment meanly on other's work. It's not nice, and it will do nothing to get your videos more views.
- If you have a MacBook use iShowU movie software.
- Don't be a jerk. Scamming people into subscribing to you is mean, and it just annoys most people. Don't offer, say, a rare penguin to people if they subscribe, and then never give it to them.
- Unscripted videos are easier to do, but will get more views because penguins on CP do the unexpected! More people will start commenting saying things like "There I am at 1:52!"
- If you are expecting fame, forget it. You won't became the next YouTube star overnight.
Warnings
- People will comment badly, but if they have a good reason, reply in a polite way, explaining if they're wrong, or agreeing that you could have changed something. But never start a fight with someone who says something really mean. Just delete the comment and move on.
- Beware: Never meet with somebody online in real life unless it's a family relative YOU MET, or a friend at SCHOOL.
- Never say your real name on Club Penguin
- Never say your address.
