Steps
- Buy a pack of large fish hooks. Measure your neck versus the length of the fish hook to determine how many you will need.\
- Cut the barbs off all of the fish hooks.
The barb is the pointed part that is projected backwards from the main point. Fish hook barbs are meant to keep the hook in place or make it harder to pull out once penetrating flesh. We don't want this. File down or cut off the point on the fish hook to reduce the risk of poking yourself. - Thread each fish hook through the eye of the next fish hook, linking them together.
- Repeat until there are enough fish hooks linked together, and the necklace is long enough to fit around your neck.
- You can now put it around your neck and join the ends together in the normal fashion.
Tips
- Add seed beads or pony beads to 1. the pendant 2. all the hooks to make it flashy. Try to find a really small bead or small plastic/rubber caps to cap the ends if the hooks for added protection, or use needle-nose pliers to bend the tips into harmless loops.
- Measure the fish hook necklace around the hat of the fisherman/woman in your household to create a decorative band.
Warnings
- Fish hooks may also snag in your clothes.
- Fish hooks are purposely sharp enough to pierce flesh. Filing down the tips will help avoid getting poked but is not a guarantee. Take care when you move your neck while wearing.
- Be sure to cut off all the sharp edges and points.
- Removing the barb is a must so that if accidentally poked with the fish hook it will not have to be torn out, causing more pain and damage.
