Make a Fountain in Minecraft

Fountains are a beautiful decorations in Minecraft, and add another level of beauty to builds such as mansions. This guide will teach you how to build a fountain.

Steps

Building a Basic Fountain

  1. Build a basic fountain. There are many different ways to design a fountain, but this is one of the simplest designs.
  2. Decide which blocks will be the edge of your fountain. This can be any block of your choice.
    • One of the more popular block choices is the stone slab, as it provides a nice lip around the water, but you can use any block you wish.
  3. Make a 5x5 square base.
  4. You can take out the corner blocks for a more circular look.
  5. Dig out the 3x3 area inside of the base.
  6. Replace the dirt on the bottom and sides with the block of your choice. For this demonstration, Glowstone blocks will be used.
  7. Build a column of blocks in the center of the fountain, with whatever height you choose.
  8. Get a bucket of water and right-click the top of the column.
  9. Now you have a basic fountain.
  10. Build your own fountain. So you have the basic fountain down right? So why not expand it and make it your own. These steps will help you add some variety to your fountain.
  11. Decide what shape you want your fountain to be. It can be anything from a hexagon, to amoeba shape.
  12. Decide how tall you want it to be.
  13. Decide how many tiers and "spouts" that you want. This is once again infinitely expandable.
  14. Decide how shallow or deep the fountain is.
  15. This list could go on forever, just be creative, and see what you can come up with

Tips

  • You can use lava instead of water, though it is much more dangerous.
  • Experiment with different types of fountains.
  • You can also alternate blocks for a cool design.
  • Use lava to make a hot or the the silver blocks to make the fountain.
  • Use lava to make a hot tub.
  • Don't use lava and water at once! It will become obsidian with water.
  • To make the scenery more aesthetically pleasing consider adding flowers near the fountain.
  • The pillar inside the spout can be removed, to make it seem as though the water shoots up from the bottom.
  • Try making your first fountain in Creative version, then try to do it in Survival. The reason for using Creative version is so you have all the items you need without having to collect them.

Warnings

  • If you play on multi-player, griefers may ruin your fountain by switching water with lava and changing the material of your fountain.
  • Handling lava is dangerous, bring a bucket of water in case you fall in your own lava fountain, then right click the water bucket.
