Make a Pop Tab Bracelet

For those of you who like to recycle and be crafty at the same time, here's your chance. These pop tab bracelets can be worn by anyone with an edgy sense of fashion. They look stylish and are easy to make.

Steps

  1. Collect the tabs. You'll also need a flat ribbon or shoelace (of any color) and a safety pin.
  2. Measure the bracelet. Put the shoelace or ribbon around your hand to see where you need to cut it.
  3. String on your pop tabs, one by one, as shown.
  4. Close the loose ends with a safety pin around your wrist. Fold the ends before you pin them. Have a friend help with this so you don't accidentally poke yourself with the sharp pin!
  5. If you are using a shoelace, you can use a lighter to slightly burn the ends of the shoelace so that it won't fall apart.
  6. Finished.

Tips

  • You can color the pop tabs before you put them on the bracelet with permanent markers or nail polish.
  • You can try using black elastic instead of ribbon so it stretches to slip over the hand. At the end of the bracelet, add one more pop tab and stitch it up permanently so no pins can poke; less likely to injure.
  • Alternatives to the safety pin include buttons, snaps, velcro, and any other clasp.
  • You can decorate the ribbon or shoelace by embroidering a contrasting pattern on it with a sewing machine.
  • Add color with colored pop tabs from energy drinks like Amp.
  • By simply extending the process, you can also make a necklace!
  • Try making your bracelet vertically, instead or horizontally, for a different look.
  • Try making a clasp out of a paper clip and a larger pop tab such as those from soup or dog food.
  • Instead you can use a longer string, then get a friend to tie it into a knot for you
  • This is likely to be a well-received and thoughtful gift for an emo/goth,or punk It's personal, funky and environmentally friendly.
  • You can burn the ends of the shoelace with a lighter, so that it won't fall apart
