Make an Umbrella Pouch

Save all those old umbrellas. Umbrellas that have turned inside out due to a very windy rainstorm are still useful in other ways. Think of using it to create an umbrella pouch for use on rainy days.

Steps

  1. Separate the umbrella fabric from the spokes.(be careful not to cut or stab your self with the spokes)
  2. Turn the fabric so that the wrong side will be facing up. Fold in 1" of the fabric from edge and pin. Sew along the pinned edge leaving about a 3/4" hem.
  3. Pick two panels directly across from each other and use scissors to make an opening in the seam at the hem. This is where the drawstring will be threaded through.
  4. Thread your shoelace around perimeter of fabric, beginning and ending in the same spot. Tie the ends of the shoelace together.
  5. Take your second shoelace and begin on the opposite side of fabric and thread through same way.
  6. Take one button and place it in the center inside of the bag. Holding it in place, put the other button on the outside center of the bag. Sew the buttons together, patching up the hole where the umbrella was removed from the frame.
  7. Pull the drawstrings together and your bag is complete!
