Manual on a Kick Scooter
Ever wondered how people on a scooter can manual for so long? Well, now you will find out how!
Steps
- Ride along at about walking pace.
- Put one foot in the center of the deck and the other foot right in front of the break near the back of the scooter.
- Pull up to get the front wheel off the ground, but not too much as to fall backwards.
- If you feel yourself tipping over the back wheel, touch the brake.
- If you are falling forward, pull up on the handle bars.
- Ride like this for as long as you want to and control the manual with the brake and the handlebars.
- Drop the front down and ride away.
Tips
- Learning to manual doesn't come along straight away - it takes heaps of practice to get it right and consistent.
- Manual down a small hill to get the feel of the manual.
- Don't have poor quality wheels with flat spots, as this majorly impedes your manualing performance.
- Keep practicing and, as much as you want to give up - don't!
- As you get better, progress to flatter ground.
- If you feel yourself losing balance or falling, jump off the scooter to prevent hurting yourself.
Warnings
- Wear a helmet if you don't want to get gnarly injuries.
Things You'll Need
- a scooter (duh)
- helmet (if you want to)
- a lot of space with flat ground and no undulations
- knee pads and elbow pads (in case you fall)
