Be Cool on a Scooter/Moped
Are you tired of being disrespected in traffic because you don't look like that sleek guy on his $40k motorbike? Not anymore! Now you can ride in style on a scooter or moped with these simple steps.
Steps
- Get the style:

- Don't dress like the biker guys. Make sure you don't get a full leather suit, it doesn't look right with a scooter or moped.
- Study up on scooter culture. The British mod style of the '60s that's being emulated so much these days is closely tied with great vintage scoots.
- "Mod" (modify) your scooter with custom graphics and accessories such as racks, mirrors, lights, cases and so on.
- Get the driving right:

- No one looks cool wobbling around, falling, crashing, running into things or angering drivers and other riders.
- Be savvy with parking:

- Don't park in heavily-trafficked areas (on public sidewalks), obstruct walking or traffic, or park anywhere illegal.
Tips
- Never remove the exhaust on your scoot/moped to make it sound aggressive and draw more attention.
- What's the difference? A moped has pedals and is generally not capable of speeds over {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} or so. A scooter will have an engine between 50cc and 80cc in size. Those over 150cc are highway-legal in most US states.
Warnings
- Many scooters have engine sizes and speeds comparable to motorcycles, so come with the same risks. Taking a motorcycle safety course, wearing proper gear and getting licensed as required by your state will help mitigate that risk.
Things You'll Need
- A scooter
- Helmet
- Driver's licence (This varies by state)
- a light waterproof jacket for those sudden summer showers.
