Use a Mobility Scooter
Mobility scooters are safe and easy to use for most individuals. But it is still important to review a few basic instructions prior to using one.
Steps
- Make sure your mobility scooter is fully charged and ready for use.
- Make sure your mobility scooter is unplugged and not charging. If your mobility scooter is plugged into the charger, it will not operate. This is a safety feature.
- Check that your key is in the mobility scooter and you have it switched to "on".
- Make sure there is no one in front of you or any obstacles so you do not run into an objects.
- Find the throttle next to the handle bars. Slightly pull the throttle until you begin to move.
- Once you are comfortable with the slow speed, pull the throttle all the way in to move faster. Simultaneously, if you wish to slow down just release the mobility scooter throttle.
Tips
- Make sure you understand the travel range of your mobility scooter. Some mobility scooters can only travel for 6 miles, while others can travel for 20+ miles.
- Make sure you test your mobility scooter battery every year. If not, the battery may not hold a full charge. This will bring your mobility scooter to a halt.
- Stay on the sidewalk when you use a mobility scooter.
- Always be aware of your surroundings when you use a mobility scooter so you do not run into any people, animals, or objects.
Warnings
- Do not use a mobility scooter on a highway or main road.
- Do not use a mobility scooter if you are under the influence of any prescription medication or alcohol, that may alter your judgement.
