Replace the Scooter Grips on a Razor Scooter

The handlebar grips are always the first thing to wear out on a kick scooter. After about 6-9 months of regular riding the grips are either torn, missing completely or filled with dirt, sweat and grime. New replacement grips are inexpensive and easy to install so keeping a fresh set on your scooter is easy and for safety purposes the smart thing to do. The first step is to order the grips. Since very few stores carry the grips you must order online.

Steps

  1. Remove the old grips (if they’re not worn off already) either by simply tearing them off or cutting one end with a pair of scissors and then tearing the rest. They are not that hard to remove.
  2. For installation you need a bottle of regular hair spray and the new grips. Using any type of oil based lubricant is a bad thing because the handles can slide back off resulting in injury so never use anything beside the hair spay.
  3. Hold the new grip up and put 2 squirts of spray right into one end of the handle. You want to get some on the mouth of the opening and the rest into the middle of the handle. (Note: spraying the handlebar does not work, just spray the end of the grip.) Then take the end you just sprayed and in a circular motion work it over the end of the handlebar. Once the grip is over the end of the handle bar, use a twisting motion to slide the grip up into place. Once the grip is in place let it dry. The hairspray will evaporate and the grip will remain firmly in place.
  4. Go have fun on your scooter.

Tips

  • Regular hair spray works best.

Warnings

  • Do "not" use any type of oil based lubricant, only hair spray.
