Remove Followers on Twitter

Unless you have a private Twitter account, you don't have much control over who can follow you. While there isn't an official way to remove a follower from your account, you can revoke selected followers' access to your Twitter feed by blocking and then unblocking them; doing so will remove them from your follower list without alerting them to the change.

Steps

Using a Mobile Device

  1. Tap the "Twitter" app.
  2. Tap the "Me" tab. This is the person-shaped icon in the lower right corner of your screen.
  3. Tap the "Followers" option. You'll find this above the "Tweets", "Media", and "Likes" options toward the top of your screen.
  4. Tap a follower you wish to block. Doing so takes you to their account page.[1]
  5. Tap the gear icon. This option is to the right of your follower's profile picture.
  6. Tap the "Block (username)" option.
  7. Tap "Block" when prompted. This officially blocks your selected follower.
  8. Tap the red "Blocked" icon. You'll find this option in the top right corner of your screen.
  9. Tap "Unblock" in the resulting pop-up menu. Your follower should now be unblocked, but they will no longer be following your account.[2]

Using a Desktop

  1. Navigate to your Twitter page. If you aren't already logged in, you'll need to enter your Twitter-registered email address (or your phone number/username) and password.
  2. Click the "Followers" option. This is on the left side of your Twitter feed, directly below your profile picture and background image.
  3. Click the "More user options" gear for your selected user. You'll find this to the left of the "Follow" (or "Following") button on a user's information box.
  4. Click "Block (username)" in the drop-down menu.
  5. Click "Block" again when prompted.
  6. Click the "Blocked" button. This is in the top right corner of your selected follower's profile; after clicking it, they will no longer be blocked--though they will have been removed from your follower tally.

Tips

  • You can navigate to a user's profile in order to block them in a variety of ways, including clicking or tapping their name in your Twitter feed or searching for their name in Twitter's search bar.
  • Blocked users will be unable to contact you in any way on Twitter.

Warnings

  • If you don't have a protected account, blocking and then unblocking a follower will enable them to follow you again if they choose to do so.
