Reset the ABS on a BMW R1100RT Motorcycle
What happens when the ABS lights on your R1100 start flashing alternately? This will work on the ABS II in the K1100LT as well. It means your ABS isn't working and you need to get it reset by an expensive BMW garage! Not anymore, all you need is {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of wire stripped at both ends!
Steps
- Turn off the ignition and remove the seats from the bike.
- Look under the rider seat for a set of three wires that go into a plug. It is usually a blue plastic plug with three wires lined up together.
- Remove the plug (you will see that it's nothing but an empty piece of plastic!).
- Insert one end of your {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} strip of wire into the cable plug so it makes contact with the CENTER wire
- Ground the other end of your wire
- Turn on the ignition and hold down the ABS button for 10 seconds.
- Turn off the ignition, remove your {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} wire and put the bike back together again.
- Turn the ignition back on and the ABS is reset! You may have to repeat this process a few times to get it to work. A good ground is important.
Tips
- This may also work on other version of the R1100, but results are not guaranteed on other bikes.
- The procedure is slightly different for a R1150GS (mine is a 2000 model year).
