Wheelie a Thumper (250 or 450)
OK, if you have any type of thumper motorcycle, this is the place to learn how to wheelie it.
Steps
- Put on a helmet.
- Grab your bike and just cruise for a couple of laps.
- Start in 1st gear, and go pretty slow ({{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}.) Pull hard on your handlebars, lean back, and roll on the throttle about 1/4 of the way. The front end should be up in the air now.
- Get the bike to about a 50-degree angle, and you should go until you are tapping out gear 1.
- Let the throttle off a little, and push the shifter into the next gear.
- Be prepared to brake the rear wheel, should the bike want to flip over backwards. Tapping the rear brake will bring the front end back down.
- Ride-on from there.
Tips
- Practice shifting with the clutch.
- The real trick is to be able to have your bike at about a 65-degree angle, and just blip the gas to hold it there.
- If your bike is at a lesser angle(30 degrees & down), then hold the throttle down.
- The steeper of an angle your bike is at, the less throttle you will need.
Warnings
- Preserve nature, always wear a helmet, and think about safety because that comes first and foremost of everything else.
- 'If you feel the bike is getting too steep of an angle just tap the back brakes slightly until you level out.
- Do not get panicky and grab a bunch of gas if you are going down. This is a good way to loop the bike. Just let the front wheel fall, and try it again.
- Don't try your first wheelies down your local country road. Practice on soft dirt or grass.
