Respond When Asked on a Date

Not sure how to answer a guy who has asked you out? Read the following to help you out!

Steps

  1. If you want to go out with him, then just say yes. If you really like him, then go for it. Even if you get embarrassed easily, it's just one word.
  2. If you don't want to go out with him, don't say yes. This could just end up hurting him more - no one wants to go out with someone who doesn't like them.
  3. Try to give a definite answer of either yes or no. If you say maybe, then it could just be giving false hope if you end up deciding not to go out with him. You don't want to lead him on.
  4. If you don't like the guy that way, then say no in a nice way. Don't be harsh in your letdown; it probably took him weeks to get the courage to confront you.
  5. Never say yes if you don't want to be his girlfriend. It's better to get rejected than to think you have a chance with someone when you don't.
  6. If you do say no try to put him down gently, but don't go on and on. It will just get boring and uncomfortable, and you giving him all the reasons why you don't want to go out with him won't help him.
  7. If you want a date with him, but you think the time is not suitable, just propose another time, so that he doesn't take it as a rejection.

Tips

  • If you say, "No," don't sound disgusted or snobby. That's basically crushing half his dignity and courage by saying no, when he got up the courage to ask you.
  • Don't act like a fool and stand there. While you may be surprised, adding in small gestures (such as a smile) can let the other person you know that you have heard them correctly.
  • Say, "Yeah, sounds like fun!" or, "Yes, I'd love to."
  • Don't act desperate when you say yes, or you'll only embarrass yourself.
  • A cute, flirtatious, 'sure!' would also win the day.
  • Be careful and know who you're saying yes to; if you only met him/her that day, you don't know him/her properly yet! Say "I'd love to, but I need to get to know you," or "I'm sorry, I can't. I don't feel about you that way, but I would like to be friends!"
  • Make sure to be straightforward.

Warnings

  • How do you know that you won't like this guy? There can be times when you won't think you'll get along, yet you go and have a great time! It's okay to say no, but at the same time, you should give it at least some thought.
  • If someone asked you out in public, and you want to say no, ask him if you could go to a private place so he doesn't embarrass himself in front of everyone.
  • Never spread gossip on someone to whom you've said no. Once you've said no, your point is made and there's little point giving him a hard time. You will just end up looking mean if you make fun of him or spread rumors.
  • If you say no, don't carry on having stabs at him and his confidence.
  • When you say no don't just say no and walk away, as that would most likely hurt his feelings. Say, "I'm sorry."
