Set Auto Mirrors
Template:Stub Setting your mirrors properly can make driving safer by helping you to increase your field of vision and eliminate blind spots around your car. Most drivers know that the sides of their car are not visible in either their side-view or rear-view mirrors. But did you know that you can actually set your mirrors to bring these areas into focus? Just follow these simple steps to set your auto mirrors and drive more safely than before.
Steps
- Adjust rear-view mirror by sitting in your normal driving position. Tilt the mirror so that you can see the entire rear windshield without moving your head.
- Prepare to adjust the left (driver's side) mirror by leaning your head toward the driver's side window. Adjust the left mirror so that you can *just* see the back of the car.
- Prepare to adjust the right (passenger side) window by moving your head to the center of the vehicle. Adjust the right mirror as you did the left; you should just barely see the rear of the car in the mirror.
- Double check your work. The side-view mirrors should extend your field of view to the right and left of the vehicle such that you can see to the sides of your car in addition to seeing behind it.
Tips
- Always wear your seatbelt!
- Always check your mirror adjustments before you begin to drive - especially if someone else has driven your car recently.
- Adjusting mirrors is also subject to personal preference. You should set your mirrors so that you can use them effectively and drive safely.
Warnings
- This mirror setting may be different from what you are used to. It may take some time to get used to the new setup.
