Take Photos and Video With the iPhone 4

The iPhone 4 has many photo/video features, including two cameras, an LED flash, and the ability to take HD photos & videos. While so many options may seem daunting at first, this article will help master your iPhone's camera capabilities.

Steps

Camera Use

  1. Tap the “Camera” icon. In the upper left corner, there is the LED flash switch; set it either off, on, or auto. Next comes the HDR switch. HD recording takes up a lot of memory, so by default, it is set to off. Tap the switch to turn it on. To the far right is the camera switch. Tap this to display either the front or main camera on the screen.
  2. Tap anywhere on the screen to focus the camera and set the exposure for that area. The desired focus area should be enclosed by the focus area box.
  3. Tap the screen. Drag the zoom slider to zoom in or out. This works with the main camera, in camera mode only.
  4. Tap the thumbnail in the lower left corner to review photos or videos you have taken. Select that file of photo or video and tap the trash can icon to delete it.
  5. Slide the camera/video toggle between taking photos and videos.
  6. Hit the button in the bottom center to record or take a photo.
  7. Take a screenshot by quickly pressing and releasing the On/Off-Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time. Your screen will flash, letting you know the screenshot was taken.
  8. View your newly taken photos by clicking the "Photos" icon on your home screen. You can also click the thumbnail in the lower left corner when viewing in camera mode. When viewing a photo or video in the Camera Roll album, tap the screen to display the controls. If you save both the normal and the HDR versions of a photo, the HDR icon appears in the upper-left corner of the HDR photo (when the controls are visible).

Sending Photos and Videos Using iOS 7

  1. Choose a photo or video and tap it to reveal onscreen controls if they aren't already present. Click on the icon of an arrow coming out of a box in the bottom left corner.
  2. Scroll through the photos and videos and select the ones you would like to send. Up to 5 can be sent at one time. Then, click "Next".
  3. Click the "Mail" icon.
  4. A new message draft will pop up. Specify your recipients and type in your subject line. Then, click "Send".

Sending Photos and Videos Using iOS 6 and Before

  1. Choose a photo or video and tap the right motion arrow. If you don’t see the right motion arrow, tap the screen to show the controls.
  2. Trim unwanted frames from the beginning or end of a video to condense it. While viewing a video, tap the screen to display the controls.
  3. Drag either end of the frame viewer at the top of the video, then tap “Trim.” Now tap “Trim Original” or “Save as New Clip.”
    • Important: If you choose “Trim Original,” the trimmed frames are permanently deleted from the original video. If you choose “Save as New Clip,” a new trimmed video clip is saved in the Camera Roll album and the original video is unaffected.
  4. Email the photo or video. Tap “Email Photo/Video.” The photo or video appears in a new mail message window. Compose your message, then tap “Send.”
    • To send multiple photos or videos at the same time, when viewing thumbnails in an album, tap the right motion arrow, then tap to select the photos or videos you want to send. Now tap “Share,” then tap “Email.
    • Send the photo/video with an MMS. Begin by selecting a photo or video and tap the button in the lower left corner. Then tap “MMS.”
