Tame a Horse in Minecraft PC

Can't ride your horse in Minecraft, after all that naming, building, and mob hunting? You needn't search any more, here are some solutions.

Steps

Mounting

  1. Right click the horse with an empty hand. You will then mount it.
  2. It will probably buck you off. Try again until you see hearts pop up on the screen.
  3. Click "E" and you'll see your horse's inventory.
  4. Place a saddle where you see an image of a saddle, and armor too, if you want it on.

Apples

  1. Get about sixteen apples from trees or other places.
  2. Go up to the horse and right click on it until the apples are gone. Right clicking is how you feed horses in Minecraft.
  3. You will see about three hearts if particles are on and the horse will be tamed for you.

Equipping Items

  1. To put a chest on a mule, or a donkey, have a chest in your hand and right click on the mule (donkey's) back. That will put the chest on. More tips:
    • To access the chest, right click while riding the mule/donkey
    • To remove the chest, right click while riding the mule or donkey and there will be an icon of a chest in the armor slot. Remove that chest via shift-clicking or dragging the chest to your inventory.
  2. Use regular Minecraft movement keys to move and left-shift to get off.

Riding

  1. Tame the horse.
  2. Click on it a few times. It may not want you to ride it.
  3. Open your inventory. Find a saddle.
  4. Open the horse's inventory. Place the saddle there.
  5. Click on the horse again. It will let you ride it.
  6. Get golden or regular apples. Get the horse to eat one. You should see hearts appear.
  7. Find an anvil and a name tag. Place the anvil down and click on it.
  8. Drag the nametag to repair.
  9. Type in the name for the horse. Click Save.
  10. Take the nametag to the horse. Click on it and the horse now has a name.
  11. Get a lead. Click on the horse to add it.
  12. Drag the horse wherever you want it to go.
    • Don't go too fast.
    • If you fly (not recommended), land on water.

Tips

  • Feeding a horse will make it easier to tame. They will eat wheat, hay bales, sugar, apples, bread, golden carrots, and golden apples.
  • Mules are not found naturally in Minecraft, instead you can breed one using a horse and a donkey.
  • Donkey and mules cannot be equipped with armor, instead you can mount a chest on them.
  • Golden apples speed up taming by 50%.

Warnings

  • If you don't put a saddle on the horse and try to ride it, you'll only get a few steps and then the horse won't budge.
