Tame and Breed a Dog on Minecraft
Have you ever played Minecraft? Well, if you have, have you ever wanted to tame and breed a dog or wolf? Well, if you have, this is the article for you!
Steps
- First, find a wolf. They spawn in the Forest, Taiga, Mega Taiga, Cold Taiga, and Cold Taiga M biomes. If you are in creative mode, you can also spawn one using a wolf spawn egg.
- To tame the wolf, get some bones. They can be dropped by skeletons and wither skeletons, obtained from chests in desert temples and jungle temples, or caught by fishing. Then walk up to the wolf and right click on it with the bones. It may take multiple tries and will consume your bone. After you tame it, you can make the dog either sit or follow you by right clicking on it. When it is tame, it will be sitting by default, so you will have to right click it to get it to follow you.
- In order to breed the dog, you need to tame a second wolf. Make sure both dogs are at full health, then breed them by feeding any kind of raw or cooked meat (including rotten flesh) but not fish. You can feed them by right clicking.
- The two dogs should go into love mode and breed a baby dog.
- Expect the baby dog to stay faithful to you. Usually, the baby is already tamed. You can also make the baby sit or follow you. When the puppy is born, it will have low health, so you should feed it to bring it back to maximum health.
Tips
- Build a doghouse for your dog. It doesn't only look nice, you can also put your dogs in there when you don't need them.
- Don't worry about leaving your wolf behind. If you are too far away from it, it will teleport, unless it is sitting down.
Warnings
- If you spawn baby wolves by using a spawn egg on an adult wolf, it will not be tamed.
- Wolves naturally attack skeletons, so be careful that your dog doesn't go running off and get itself shot.
- Don't put dogs in spaces that have monsters!
- Puppies cannot swim, and will drown in water if they are not removed.
- Your wolves might occasionally wander off the edge of a cliff or into lava.
- Don't hit an untamed wolf. It will try to kill you, and so will the rest of its pack.
