Understand Bike Signals

Ever notice that you could get a ticket by just riding a bike? Ever notice your city had laws about riding a bike? Using bikes with proper hand signals will probably lower those chances of a ticket.

Steps

  1. Understand there are variations of the intended meaning. Hand signals vary as traffic signs do; they indicate the same thing, but are not the same thing.
  2. Turning Right: Extend your right arm parallel to the ground with palm facing ground. While giving the signal, look backwards and in front of you, and make sure that no vehicle is approaching you.
  3. Turning Right variation #2: Raise your left forearm up 90 degrees.
  4. Turning Left(Global): Extend your left arm parallel to the ground.
  5. Stopping(US, Canada): Point your left palm backwards, and angle your arm vertically downwards.
  6. Stopping variation #2 for UK and Ireland: Extend your right arm parallel to the ground with palm facing ground (turning right variation #1) and wave it in a up and down motion.
