Use WinterBoard to Change Themes for Your iPhone

The iPhone is great, but the basic look can get a little boring after a while. Who wants to have the same look as everyone else? With a jailbroken iPhone, you can customize the appearance of every aspect of your device. Follow this guide to learn how.

Steps

Changing the Theme of Your iPhone

  1. Open the Cydia app on your jailbroken iPhone. In order to access Cydia, you must have a jailbroken iPhone. Tap the app, and then search for “WinterBoard”. Download the WinterBoard app by tapping the Install button on the WinterBoard page.
  2. Restart your iPhone. WinterBoard will not install correctly unless you power your phone down and turn it on again. Hold down the Power button until the power slider appears, and swipe it to turn your phone off. After it has shut down, press and hold the Power button to turn the phone back on.
  3. Start WinterBoard. Once the phone turns back on, you should see WinterBoard on your Springboard (Home screen).
  4. Browse installed themes. Open the Select Themes section to browse themes that have been downloaded to your iPhone. Check any of the themes that you want to apply.
    • The themes are listed by priority, and you can apply multiple themes. This means that if you find an icon set and a launcher bar that you like from different themes, you can apply both of them.
    • Tap and drag the themes around the list to set which ones take priority when applying. The top theme will be the “main theme” on the phone, and other themes listed below will fill in aspects of the interface that aren’t affected by the main one.
    • WinterBoard comes with a few preinstalled themes so that you can get an idea of how the themes affect one another.
  5. Return to the main WinterBoard menu. Tap the Re-spring button, which will reset your iPhone’s Springboard with the theme changes that you have made. This may take a few moments. After the changes have been applied, swipe the slide lock on your screen and check out the new theme.[1]

Downloading More Themes

  1. Open Cydia. Navigate to the Sections menu. Scroll down until you find the Theme listings. These will be sorted by what aspect of the UI the theme affects (apps, battery, keyboard, lockscreen, etc.).
    • Cydia is not the only resource for WinterBoard themes. Many websites offer theme downloads, and many popular repositories have themes available as well.
  2. Browse the themes. Each theme will have screenshots so you can determine if it is right for you. Once you’ve found a theme that you like, tap the Install button and it will be downloaded to your phone.
  3. Open WinterBoard. Open Select Themes and your newly-downloaded themes will appear I the list. Move them around and select them as you would the preinstalled themes.

Tips

  • The process is virtually the same for a jailbroken iPad or iPod Touch.
  • You can mix many themes together by tapping name of themes you like.

Warnings

  • Sometimes, too many themes can slow down the performance of your iPhone.
  • You should be careful because you have jail broken your iPhone. Apple will refuse any warranty if it has any problem.
