Use a Trucking Load Board
Trucking load boards are a quick and easy way to find the perfect load for your trailer. Whether you are looking to pick up some extra cash or to supplement your normal employment, trucking load boards can help you find loads across the U.S.
Steps
- Find an online load board. There are many load boards on the internet, you just have to decide which one is right for you. There are some free load boards available, however, many of them do not have a wide selection of loads. Most paid load boards cost less than $20/month and have tons of loads available in almost all 50 states. A simple search on Google will return many results for load boards. Do some research and find the one that fits your needs.
- Sign up for the load board. You'll need your basic information (name, address, email address, phone number) as well as a credit card for payment if you are using a paid board.
- Post your truck to the load board. If you'd like people with loads to find you, the best thing you can do is post your truck to the load board. You'll post the type of truck, your location, how far you want to drive, and how much space you have to the load board. This will enable those with loads to search you out.
- Search for loads. You can search for loads by location, distance, and size. By searching for loads you become your own boss by choosing how far you drive and how much you carry.
Tips
- Sign up for multiple load boards. By signing up for multiple load boards you maximize the number of loads available to you.
- Only choose loads you know you can handle. Do not take on more than you can handle - with distance or with size. If you can only do a short trip then only take on loads with short distances.
- Build your reputation by following through on loads you say you'll pick up and delivering on the timeline set by the person posting the load. This will have more people searching you and your truck out so you can minimize the amount of work you have to do to get loads.
Warnings
- Only give out information you are comfortable with. Do not give out any personal information that you wouldn't want made public on the internet.
- Do not overpay for a load board. At most, you should pay about $20/month. Anything more than that is not worth it.
