Be a Desert Racer/Rider

Need something to do to keep you out of trouble? Need an escape, even for a short time, from everyday life? Need something to do that is both beneficial and fun? Well, something like desert racing/riding might be what you're looking for. Following these few easy steps is all that it takes.

Steps

Basic Instructions

  1. Get a dirtbike that you like and are comfortable with.
  2. Get a full set of riding gear is protective and comfortable.
  3. Find a nice big open piece of desert.
  4. Get on your bike and ride.

Start Competing

If your just looking to ride then those 4 steps are all it takes. But, if you're looking to compete (which is a real fun way to enjoy riding), it doesn't get any harder. Just add the next few steps to the ones above.

  1. Find a racing organization based in your state and/or city.
  2. Contact the organization via phone or Deal With Message Board Criticism to find out what is needed to be done to participate in one of their races.
  3. Do what they tell you you need to do to race.
  4. Find a calender of their events and find when and where the next race is.
  5. Show up on the day of the race.
  6. Sign up and do what ever else is required to race (sound check, tech. inspection, etc.)
  7. Put your gear on and head to the start line to be there for the start of the race.

Tips

  • The newer the bike you can get the better. Older ones will eventually cost you more than a new one, because older bikes break more often.
  • Having properly fitting gear is a necessity. Not only is it safer, but it is also more comfortable.
  • If you want to be competitive practice, practice, and practice some more.
  • The most important part of desert racing/riding is having fun. If it isn't fun for you, then do not do it...you'll only end up getting hurt.

Warnings

  • Can be dangerous to your health if you ride faster than your skill level allows.
  • Just because you can twist the throttle doesn't mean that you can hang on when the unexpected pops up.
  • Broken bones often result from "riding over your head."
