Create a New Vibration Pattern in iOS
The iPhone includes a number of new accessibility features to accommodate those with special needs. One of these features is the ability to create custom vibration patterns to create and distinguish between predefined vibration alerts. This article will walk you through the process of creating a new custom vibration pattern on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Steps
Using iOS 7 and 8
- Open "Settings".
- Click "Sounds".
- Click "Ringtone".
- Click "Vibration".
- Click "Create New Vibration".
- Tap the grey screen in the rhythm that you'd like the vibration to occur. Once you are done tapping, click "Stop".
- Click "Save" in the top right corner to save your vibration.
Using iOS 6 and Before
- Tap the Settings app from your device’s home screen.
- Tap “Sounds” from within the settings app.
- Tap the “Vibration” tab under Vibration Patterns at the bottom of the Sounds page.
- Tap the “Create New Vibration” tab under “Custom”.
- Tap the screen to record a new pattern. Simply tap your finger on the screen in the pattern you want to a create a vibration for.
- Click “Save” in the upper right corner.
- Enter a name for your new Vibration and click the “Save” button. You can now set your new custom vibration from the within the “Vibration” tab under “Custom”. You can also set your custom pattern for a specific alert from within the associated app such as Contacts.
Tips
- iOS 5 provides an all new message app called iMessage that allows you to access text messaging services as well free messaging over WiFi and 3G to any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch running iOS 5.
- You can create custom gestures from within the Accessibility section of the Settings app.
Warnings
- iOS 5 is only compatible with iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation.
