Create a Reminder by Location in iOS

Apple has introduced a new app for creating reminders and to-do lists called Reminders. The app provides the ability to create lists that consist of reminders containing specific due dates, notes, and other data. This article will walk you through the process of creating a new list in the Reminders app on your iPhone.

Steps

Using iOS 7

  1. Click on the reminder you'd like to add a location to in order to edit it. Click on the information icon next to it (a small blue circle with an "i" inside).
  2. Click on the toggle bar next to "Remind me at a location" so it turns green. Click the location right underneath in order to edit the location.
  3. Type in the name of the location where you'd like to receive the reminder and select it from the list.
  4. Select whether you want to receive the reminder when you arrive or leave the location.
  5. Click "Details" to review the details for the reminder, and click "Done" to finalize your changes.

Using iOS 6 and Before

  1. Tap the Reminders icon from your device’s home screen to launch the app.
  2. Tap a reminder from one of your lists that you would like to set a location reminder for.
  3. Tap the “Remind Me” tab.
  4. Tap or swipe the toggle switch next to “At a Location” so it’s set to “ON”.
  5. Tap “OK” when Reminders prompts you to use your current location if that is the location you want to set for your reminder. (Current location is used in this example).
    • Optionally, tab the under the “At a Location” toggle to set a different location.
  6. Tap “When I Arrive” if you want to receive the reminder when arriving to the location, or “When I Leave” to be reminded when you leave.
  7. Tap “Done” in the upper right corner to complete the process.



Tips

  • You can create custom gestures from within the Accessibility section of the Settings app.
  • iOS 5 provides an all new message app called iMessage that allows you to access text messaging services as well free messaging over WiFi and 3G to any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch running iOS 5.

Warnings

  • Location based reminders in the Reminders app is currently not supported on any iPad or iPhone 3GS as of beta 4
  • iOS 5 is only compatible with iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation.
