Deal With Getting Your Period During PE Without Supplies

Getting your period in school can be bad enough, but what happens when you get your period during Physical Education? Here's some advice on how to deal with that situation.

Steps

  1. As soon as you've caught on to the fact you're getting your period, act fast and ask the teacher if you can go to the bathroom. If they say no, tell them you NEED to go. Both female and male teachers have to understand your needs in these situations, it's part of their job.
  2. Look around for a tampon/pad dispenser, or ask a friend or teacher for one.
  3. Once you're in the bathroom, take some time to "clean up". Check there's no staining on your pants/skirt. If there is, blot with a damp paper towel and tie a sweatshirt around your waist or cover it up in another way.
  4. Get a wet paper towel and a dry paper towel and go into a stall. Wipe with the wet one, then the dry one.
  5. Take 20 sheets of toilet paper and fold it to around {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} wide. Wrap the excess all the way around the bottom of your underwear to hold it in place. Change the make-do pad as often as possible until you get some real ones.
  6. If you think your flow is light enough for you to carry on in the lesson, try to do so. If not, ask to go to the nurse.

Tips

  • Gym class is when you're most vulnerable to leaks and accidents. You may like to wear dark shorts if they are allowed instead of a lighter color. They are also more flattering.
  • Prevention is better than cure. Always try to carry some sanitary towels or tampons in your school bag.
  • Always try to keep sanitary pads with you somewhere just in case. You never know when you'll forget one day or when you'll get some accidental spotting.
  • Do not panic. Though it's potentially embarrassing, you have to remember it's natural and almost every girl at your school experiences it.
  • If there is no dispenser, ask a close friend/trusted female teacher nearby. They won't judge you, they have it too!
  • It is probably best to carry a travel atomizer with perfume inside, to mask any odours.
  • To prevent this from happening, make sure you have a small bag with pads/tampons in your locker, just in case you get your period!

Warnings

  • Using toilet paper is an extremely temporary fix. Right after gym you should either change it or go to the school nurse and ask for some pads. If she says no (which is rare) just explain that you really need some.
  • If you only use one type of sanitary product, then your peers may not have the same product that you use.
  • Don't be afraid to ask people for supplies. Someone is bound to have something, and most girls know what you're going through and will be glad to help you out.
