Delete a Tweet

This article teaches you how to delete a tweet from your Twitter profile on both mobile and desktop platforms.

Steps

On iPhone

  1. Open Twitter. It's a blue app with a white bird icon. If you're logged into Twitter, you'll arrive at the Home page.
    • If you aren't logged into Twitter, first enter your email address (or username) and password, then tap Log in.
  2. Tap Me. This person-shaped icon is in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. Find a tweet you wish to delete and tap ˅. It's in the top-right corner of the tweet; tapping this icon will prompt a pop-up menu at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Tap Delete Tweet. This option is the red button at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Tap Delete Tweet when prompted. Doing so will remove the tweet from your account, as well as from the accounts of anyone who retweeted or liked the tweet.

On Android

  1. Open Twitter. It's a blue app with a white bird icon. If you're logged into Twitter, you'll arrive at the Home page.
    • If you aren't logged into Twitter, first enter your email address (or username) and password, then tap Log in.
  2. Tap your profile picture. It's in the top-left corner of the screen.
    • This picture will be an egg on a colored background if you haven't set a custom profile picture.
  3. Tap Profile. This option is on the left side of the screen.
  4. Find a tweet you wish to delete and tap ˅. It's in the top-right corner of the tweet; tapping this icon will prompt a pop-up menu at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Tap Delete Tweet. It's an option at the bottom of the pop-up window.
  6. Tap Yes when prompted. Doing so will remove the tweet from both your account and the appropriate folders of anyone who has liked or retweeted your tweet.

On Desktop

  1. Go to the Twitter website. It's located at https://www.twitter.com/. If you're logged into Twitter already, doing so will open Twitter's Home page.
    • If you aren't logged in, click Log in in the top-right corner of the window, enter your username (or email address) and password, and click Log in.
  2. Click your profile icon. This is in the top-right corner of the Twitter page, just left of the Tweet button.
  3. Click "View profile." It's at the top of the drop-down menu just below your Twitter name.
  4. Find a tweet you wish to delete and click ˅. It's in the top-right corner of the tweet's box.
  5. Click Delete Tweet. This option is in the drop-down menu below the icon in the top-right corner of the tweet's box.
  6. Click Delete when prompted. It's a blue button in the pop-up window. Your selected tweet will be removed from your account as well as the accounts of anyone who has liked or retweeted your tweet.

Tips

  • To delete a retweet, simply tap or click the green retweet icon beneath the tweet.

Warnings

  • Although you can block people, you cannot delete other people's replies to your tweets.
