Steps
A Cartoon Bear
- Draw an oval in pencil.
- Draw a circle to the right of the oval.
- Draw the bear's ears and muzzle.
- Erase the unnecessary lines.
- Draw the neck and mouth.
- Draw the eyes.
- Draw the upper arms and legs and erase the lines that cross them.
- Draw the feet.
- Draw the toes by drawing 3 quarter circles at the end of each hand.
- Finish off with detail, such as fur and the tail.
- Finished.
Method Two: An Alternative Cartoon Bear
- Draw a large vertical oval shape. Draw a circle at the upper left part of the oval.
- Draw details for the bear’s snout and ears using curve lines and small circles.
- Refine the drawing to form the mouth and nose. Draw details for the ears.
- Draw the bear’s eyes and fur around the head and neck.
- Draw the arms and legs using straight lines to provide framework. Draw details for the sharp claws at the feet and for the hands.
- Draw details for the body and for the tail.
- Trace with a pen and erase unnecessary lines.
- Color to your liking!
Method Three: A Traditional Bear
- Draw three overlapping circles which are ascending in size – starting from the small to the big. This will provide the framework for the drawing.
- Draw a cross-section at the smallest circle. Draw also parabolic figures concave downward at the smallest circle to form the ears. Draw a triangle at the lower half of the cross section.
- Draw details for the bear’s face. Draw the eyes, snout, nose and mouth. Draw also the curve lines for the boundary of the head as it connects to the body.
- Draw the details for the body using curve lines to connect the two other circles and to form the limbs.
- Draw curves for the ears and near the head.
- Trace with a pen, then erase unnecessary lines, and add details for the bear’s fur.
- Color according to your liking!
Tips
- Check out how bears are built. This will help you understand where the muscles are placed so you can draw an anatomically correct bear.
- Remember, details later. Just learn how to simplify objects into basic shapes. Then you can draw most animals with the basic shapes technique.
- Think in terms of shapes. Oval for the body, circle for the head, two ovals for a leg, etc.
- If you make too many mistakes, you may use another page of paper.
