Find a Job As a Hipster
Do you love music? Do people often call you stylish? This article will teach you how to find a job within the hipster community.
Steps
- Fashion. If you are interested in working with clothing, take a look at your local thrift store, a prominent indie/hipster clothing company, or any boutique for jobs. Even if they aren't hiring, compile a resume and make sure to dress stylishly but as business-appropriate as possible. Hipster stores include: American Apparel, Ted Baker, Urban Outfitters, and Forever 21. You may also want to try applying for fashion internships with indie designers.
- Music. Perhaps your true calling is music. Start out by looking at local music and record stores. Ask for an application, send in a resume, or both! You could also apply for a music internship at an indie record label.
- Film. There are limited beginning jobs in the film industry that you can apply for without having gone to school for it. You can always start out by applying at a local video/DVD rental store.
- Model. Check out modeling opportunities with American Apparel and Urban Outfitters. Many clothing stores only accept applications from aspiring models that are backed by a reputable modeling agency. In that case, it is important to put together a small beginner's portfolio and apply online at the modeling agency of your choice.
- Magazine. If you're interested in writing, journalism, and/or photo blogging, check out internships with magazines such as: Amplifier, Nylon, Sentimentalist, Juxtapoz, and more. Also, consider writing for an online magazine.
- Photography. Think about interning as a photojournalist or with a magazine of your choice. Newspapers and magazines tend to be notoriously unemployed due to the plight of the media, so a job here should be easy to come by.
