Find a Job Using Your Own Website
If you are an average specialist or your occupation is of low demand, recruiting agencies will not spend much of their time and efforts on you, they will turn to somebody else who will bring them more profits. If you turn to the employers directly, you will not be noticed among other candidates, and your resume may be lost. The advanced way of job search and career growth is using your own website. This will allow the employer find you directly.

Steps
- Understand your career/job expectations. Prepare the lists of your strong points and qualifications and of your weak points.
- Know the job market and whether your job expectations match what the job market has to offer. You can use the ratings of occupations that are published by various job sites.
- Create a website. If you are not familiar with site building you can find a company which may need your service as a consultant, then they will give you an access to the website where you can post our resume. Such partnership will be offered to you by, for example, by jobtop100.com, who provides you with a free website.
- Create an on-line resume, describing your occupation and a professional-looking resume. It should be properly formatted and reflect your skills and qualifications.
- Make your resume "keyword rich". Resumes are selected by HR officers who know little about occupations and just have the list of requirements the ideal candidate should have. Describe your skills and qualifications in the words used in the "requirements" section of the advertisement.
- Create other pages to reflect your professional, business, or technical expertise. This should be separate from your resume, but available for potential employers. Provide as much information here as possible, but in a brief form. For example, an executive summary of each personal projects related to your career would be ideal. This may help eliminate 'false positive' calls from recruiters or potential employers.
- Make your website easily 'searchable'. Use a domain name or sub-domain name that attracts recruiters from both employers and contracting agencies. Include relevant keywords in your site's head section. These are stored in something known as META tags. For example:
- <html>
- <head>
- <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="resume, job, management, manager">
- </head>
- <body>
- </body>
- </html>
Tips
- It typically takes months to get a job. If you are looking for a top position or in a unique career field, the process many take much longer (ie: six months). This time period is directly affected by your expectations such as salary demands, location, etc.
- All of the tools and processes these consulting agencies use are also available to you. The process is much easier than it may appear at first if you spend a little time to research it.
- Make the list of all the sources you are going to use in your job search and analyze them. Tell everyone you know are looking for a job.
- Develop your resume:
- If your resume does not reflect the experience needed for your target position, emphasize your skills for the position instead. This is possible when you switch careers.
- Make sure there is only one, well-defined objective. You should prepare several resumes to suit several positions. If you respond to an advertisement you should indicate the name of the position in the ad.
- If there are gaps in your experience, do not put the exact dates. Your goal is to get your foot in the door, but you will have to explain your absence at the job market during the interview.
Warnings
- Be wary of signing up for any service that helps you market yourself online. Some of these companies are comprised of business-oriented staff who may know little about web development or the latest Internet search-engine techniques. Research their work for others from independent reviews before you sign-up for any service.
