Fix a Sim Card Error on a Blackberry

On many BlackBerry© phones (the ones with SIM card doors instead of slot load SIM cards) over time the phone may start displaying 'SIM Card Error' in place of the network name and 'SOS' where the signal meter is. This is caused by the SIM card falling out of contact with the reader in the phone.

Steps

  1. Turn off your BlackBerry© handheld.
  2. Remove the battery cover and the battery from the back of the phone.
  3. Unlock and remove the SIM card from the phone, then close the SIM card latch.
  4. In the top center of the latch there is a rectangle with a metal tab in the middle; GENTLY push the metal tab inward using a toothpick or small screwdriver.
  5. Open up the latch and put the SIM card back in, when you close the latch there should be more resistance.
  6. Put the phone back together and turn it back on.
  7. You are done. What this did was create more pressure on the SIM card, holding it in place better.
