Save Your Blackberry Sent Messages

Using a Blackberry phone/email device is great, but the device's limited memory doesn't allow for effective archiving of sent messages when using Blackberry Internet Services (BIS). (BIS is different from Blackberry Enterprise Server, which is typically used by corporations that have their own Blackberry email server.) Here's an effective workaround.

Note: This article assumes that you use Cingular's Blackberry Internet Services and have already set up your Blackberry account. It also assumes that you have another personal email account (e.g., Yahoo mail, Gmail, other). If you don't have both of these setup, please do so before continuing.

Steps

  1. Login to your Blackberry Internet Services account on Cingular. ar
  2. Click on Profile on the top navigation bar.
  3. Look down the menu list and click on Auto BCC ("automatic blind carbon copy"). This means that sent messages are automatically carbon copied to another address without the intended message recipient knowing that the message was carbon copied.
  4. Enter another personal email address in the "Enter an email address of another email account" field. (You could use your Gmail email address.)
  5. Click Save when done.
  6. Be aware all of your sent messages will be sent to your other email account for permanent archiving.

Tips

  • This allows you to keep your personal email account clean while keeping all of your Sent messages from your Blackberry in one place.
  • Create a folder in your personal email (or Label, if you are using Gmail) that is called "Blackberry Sent".
  • Create a filter that automatically files messages received from your Blackberry account into that folder or Label.

Warnings

  • This will also work for those who are on Blackberry Enterprise Server, but it may not be necessary.
