Have a Safe Shelter in Minecraft
Imagine this: you're having a perfectly enjoyable experience playing Minecraft, when your bliss is cut short by a mob attack. Zombies, Endermen and creepers that plague the game can easily ruin your day. What you need is a good sturdy shelter to keep you safe and happy!
Steps
- Replace wooden doors with iron doors or blocks to keep out zombies if you are playing Hard mode or Hardcore. In either one of these settings, they will break down the doors.
- Light up the area around your house. Bad mobs like creepers, zombies, and skeletons can't spawn somewhere where it is too bright.
- Build some walls around your house. Make them three high with a one block over-hang so that spiders can't get over.
- Put a moat of water around your house. Make the water flows away from your house to push away enemies.
- Have a watchtower to spot mobs from in your shelter.
- Have a bunker under your house to go to if your house is invaded. Keep it stocked with armor, weapons and food.
- Always have a second way out of your house: preferably underground.
- If you're good with redstone, hook up a trapdoor bridge over your moat.
- If you're really serious about defending your shelter consider putting in some flood gates to flush out Endermen who teleport into your base.
- If you can, keep some cats. Creepers are afraid of cats and this will keep them away. Keep some dogs, too, so you can kill off any mob who manages to enter your house faster.
- Put a one-block-wide moat of lava around your house. You'll be able to easily jump over the moat if it's only one block wide, but mobs will just fall in, because they keep walking towards your house. For extra security, you could put this moat a little closer to your house than your water moat, in case any mobs succeeded in getting past the first one.
- Don't leave windows open. If you have any windows in your house, fill them with glass so skeleton arrows don't come through.
- Always the golden rule of PVE (player vs enemy). If you don't have the advantage RUN! If your house is invaded, don't go up against them with a wooden sword and half hunger.
Tips
- Mob's can't spawn on half-slabs, if you have a wood shelter but no light, build the floor out of half-slabs.
- Don't leave your door open. Mobs will get in.
- Some players consider putting the game difficulty on peaceful cheating.
- Keep a sword, food and armor on you at all times.
- Have a second base to go to if your house is invaded. It should contain a chest filled with food, weapons and armor.
- Always make windows and glass panes around the walls. This way, you can see what's going on outside (etc. watch for mobs).
- Sleep in a bed at night to skip and avoid the mobs from spawning.
- Enchant most of your stuff especially armor.
- Holes with cacti and a sign in at the base of a wall will stop and kill most mobs.
- Put traps around your base. It helps keep mobs away and one more thing, zombies can sense if they fall down they will be damaged.
- Try putting some signs and a drop under the outer edge of your moat to flush out mobs in the moat.
- Try to build your house with a durable block, such as obsidian, cobblestone, etc.
Warnings
- Make sure the wiring doesn't give mobs a way over the moat.
