Make Curled Paper Hearts
Looking for a “different” way to express your feelings for that certain someone? Skip the card aisle at the drugstore and make your own three-dimensional curled paper heart(s). These hearts may look like you put a lot of effort into making them but in reality they are quite easy.

Steps
- Determine heart sizes before cutting the paper. Larger hearts require thicker, longer strips of paper, whereas smaller, delicate hearts will come from thinner, shorter strips.
- Cut paper strips. No template needed for this project! Each heart is created from a strip of the quilling paper so make sure you have an even measurement/edge on each strip. Also, a symmetrical heart has an equal width on each strip.
- Create heart. Each heart should be created the same way using your pencil and clean fingers.
- Fold paper strip in half. Make sure the ends meet up evenly and you have a nice crease in the middle of the paper strip.
- Place your pencil or pen side along the top of one of the paper strips. Hold the paper strip firmly next to the pencil.
- Wind the pencil and paper downward toward the center crease of the paper. Wind halfway down the middle of the folded paper strip and then slowly remove the pencil.
- Repeat the curling step on the other paper strip. Curl inward and stop halfway down.
- Finished.
Tips
- Avoid using construction paper for this project as it is too heavy and won’t curl properly.
- Write your message inside the paper strip before curling so the recipient has to unwind it to read.
- Glue the curled heart to a card. Using a hot glue gun, add several dabs of glue to the back of your curled heart and gently affix to the waiting card. Allow several minutes to dry.
- Use origami paper(one side white and other side coloured) for double coloured hearts.
