Steps
- Get a large piece of cardboard. You could get this from a moving box or you could ask your neighbors if they have any extra cardboard.
- Draw the shape of a giant heart and cut it out with an X-Acto knife. If you are worried about messing up when cutting, make sure to have extra cardboard so you can try again if you mess up the first time.
- Bundle up lots of newspaper and using masking tape. Pad one side of the heart. Tape everything tightly and securely.
- Mix up some paper mache paste using flour, water and salt. Add a squirt of white glue to strengthen the paste.
- Tear up some newspaper strips and cover the entire heart with four layers of paper mache. Let it dry completely before moving on to the next step.
- Paint with acrylic paints.
- Spray with varnish once dried. This will seal and preserve the heart so it lasts longer.
- Decorate by hot gluing buttons, feathers or lace fabric. You could also use glitter or sequins to make it sparkle. This is when you get to really get creative, so think of cool ways to decorate.
Tips
- The heart can be hung on the wall. Just hot glue a loop of ribbon or rope to the back.
- Write a nice saying with glitter glue or metallic paint. Try "Be Mine" or "One and only Valentine."
Warnings
- Be careful when using hot glue and X-Acto knife.
