Make Yahoo! Mail Work in Apple Mail

Unlike Gmail and AOL, Yahoo! does not offer free POP or IMAP service. This means according to Yahoo!, unless you pay about $20 dollars a year, you cannot configure it to work with desktop email software like an Apple Mail. But it is possible.

Steps

  1. Go to e-link. In the lower right-hand corner, you will see a link that says "Download". Click on it.
  2. Know that when it is finished downloading, go to your downloads folder (or wherever things usually download to) and click the .dmg file. A message will pop up. If you agree, click agree. A drive will appear on your desktop. Open it (if it is not already opened) and drag the MacFreePOP's folder to your Applications folder. Eject the drive.
  3. Go to your applications folder and open the MacFreePOP's folder. Click the MacFreePOP's icon and the program should start.
  4. Click the button that says start freepopsd service<tt>. For easiest results, click the extra options triangle, and check Auto start service when MacFreePOP's is opened. You might also want to set MacFreePOP's as a login item.

    • Go to the Mail menu and click <tt>Preferences
    .
  5. Click the accounts tab.

  9. In the Email Address box, just type your Yahoo! email address.
  10. In the Full Name box, just type your name.
  11. For the incoming mail server, go back to MacFreePOPs and look at what it says in the drop down drawer for the incoming mail server and type that in.
