Make a Best Friends Scrapbook

A best friends scrapbook is a way to keep a record of mementos, tokens, photos and stories that define your friendship and provide reminders of the times spent together. You can put together a scrapbook in many ways but it's fun to choose one that is made from scratch. This book is suitable for making with just one friend or with a bunch of friends, whichever you prefer.

Steps

Making the book

  1. Construct the book. Take out the construction paper. When choosing the paper color, think about your friend's favorite colors and your favorite colors and try to combine them throughout the book. It's also a good idea to organize a theme or a pattern that will be repeated through the book.
  2. Place the colored paper in a neat pile. This forms the inner portion of the book. Then add the front and back cover pieces (stronger card) at the front and back of the pile of paper.
  3. Punch holes in the top, bottom left, and middle corners. It's probable that you'll need to do this in sections, and you will probably find it easiest to punch the covers separately. Mark the position to ensure that each section and the covers stay aligned after the holes have been added.
  4. Thread string, yarn or ribbon through the holes to hold the book together. Tie firmly with a strong knot and end with a nice bow for a prettier touch.

Designing the cover

  1. Design the front cover. Get out your decorating tools (known as "Things for Inside Scrapbook) and get creative and start designing a cool cover!
    • Design the cover with your friend(s) or, if it's for a gift, ask mutual friends to help with design ideas.
  2. Give the book a suitable title. Make it something that is special or relevant to you both, such as your friend's name or friends' names, or a title that recalls adventures you've had together, etc.
  3. Write things such as "best friends forever" on the cover too. A few fun quotes make a nice touch.
  4. Add decorations. Here, the sky is the limit. Add whatever you like, from fancy hearts, to feathers, gems, glitter, decoupage, etc.

Adding content

  1. Make profiles. Ask your friend or friends to tell you special things. Record what you're told and write these things on a separate piece of paper. Use this information to fill the book in.
    • For a group book: If you are making this a group, project, have everyone pitch in to create their own profile pages. When you got all the girls' profiles, give them their papers and have them design their profiles. Make sure you have the decorating tools out, so they can personalize their profiles when they are done.
  2. Keep adding information, images and mementos. Whenever you and your friends go out, take notes of all the details that happened, and then put it in the scrapbook. You can put in extra things like movie theater tickets, brochures etc.
  3. Make copies for keeping. When you and all your friends have to split up some day, you can each keep the book. Either make hard copies or digital copies and present the completed book to each friend you've made it for.

Tips

  • Don't limit yourself to including just photographs or ticket stubs. Paste or tape any mementos of your friendships in the book, including notes, doodles, birthday cards, and so on.
  • You can buy a huge diary from a store if you want, but creating your own is more original.
  • You can get most supplies from a scrapbook store.
  • Only share the book with your very best friends.
  • If the string keeps falling out then just staple it together.
  • You can use pinking shears all around the construction paper first so it can be even more creative!
  • You can add your boyfriend in the book if you want, and so can your friends' boyfriends, but remember, all relationships eventually come to an end and if the break up is bad, the scrapbook could drag up messy feelings.
  • If you are making a scrapbook for a best friend add quotes and jokes to lighten their mood.
  • Add your best friend's happy and sad moment.
