Make a Strawberry Slushie

There are many variations possible for making a strawberry slushie drink. How you make yours will depend on what ingredients you have available and what tempts you!

Ingredients

Fresh Strawberry Slushie

  • 14.1 oz/400g strawberries, fresh or frozen
  • Juice from 1/2 a lemon
  • Mint leaves, fresh
  • Ice cubes
  • Superfine or caster sugar, to taste

Strawberry and Kool-Aid Slushie

  • 1 large can pineapple juice
  • 2 cans frozen lemonade (12 oz.)
  • 2 bags pre-sweetened strawberry Kool-Aid
  • 2 large package frozen strawberries, mashed
  • 4 cups water

Strawberry and Honey Slushie

  • 1 pint/punnet/560g strawberries, fresh
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 1/2 cups lemonade, or sufficient to blend to slushy consistency; if preferred use juice or water
  • 2 cups ice

Steps

Making a Fresh Strawberry Slushie

  1. Prepare the strawberries. Remove the leaves from each strawberry. Clean them as needed.
  2. Place the strawberries into the blender. Add a few ice cubes.
  3. Pour in the lemon juice. Add sufficient water to cover the strawberries and cubes.
  4. Drop in the mint leaves. Blend all the ingredients to combine. Taste a little, then sweeten to taste with the sugar.
  5. Fill a pitcher or jug halfway with ice cubes.
  6. Pour the blended slushie into the pitcher or jug. Stir with a long-handled spoon.
  7. Serve immediately.

Making a Strawberry and Kool-Aid Slushie

  1. Pour mixed ingredients into an ice cream maker.
  2. Stir occasionally until slushed.
  3. Skip step one if you don't have an ice cream maker. Instead, mix ingredients in a bowl and put in the freezer.
  4. Serve. Fill glass half full with slush and fill rest of way with 7-Up (fizzy lemonade).

Making a Strawberry and Honey Slushie

  1. Prepare the strawberries. Hull them and clean them by gentle washing.
  2. Add the strawberries to the blender.
  3. Pour in the lemonade (or other liquid of choice). Add the honey.
  4. Blend to combine for about one minute. When you can see that the honey has been completely combined, add the ice.
  5. Blend the ice in. Finish blending when it looks like a slushie.
  6. Taste. Add more sweetener to taste if needed.
  7. Serve immediately. Pour into chilled glasses and garnish with a mint leaf or strawberry half.

Tips

  • If available, try using an electric ice cream machine, if you don't want to spend time stirring.
